From the tiny switch at the red levers, can you just connect them directly to the foot blowers, with a relay to get power from the ignition?

And the failure of it and my next idea here: Ceramic Reisistor Failure

I installed the aluminum housed resistor in the same place as the failed ceramic resistor. The first one I installed was a 50watt, 50 ohm resistor which didn't work very well. The footwell blowers would only come on for a minute or so and then go off.

Then I read this article by Bill Gregory Bill Gregory Tech Article regarding the backdate of a 964 and he recommended a 51 ohm 15 watt resistor.

Then it got warm out so I haven't actually switched out the 50 watt resistor for a 15 watt. I have no reason to believe it will not work. Here is where I purchased my resistors: Resistors, 10 Watt Wire Wound Resistors

The resistor idea did not work, however, thanks to the hard work of fellow Pelican, Mysterytrain, we found that a simple crossover of the reed switch solves the problem. Read through this thread for how to do it. Help! Does anyone understand the footwell blower circuit?

This thread covers the circuit in great detail.
Carrera - Removing Engine Compartment Heater Blower
I also included a modification to toss out the complicated stock relay box and replace it with 2 simple relays or (just one simple relay for backdate).

Thanks for all the great detailed information Sal, Ron and others.

I was just looking into backdating my heat and saw on Thom's site that he stopped taking orders for the Left side piece in 2006.

Where is everyone getting this piece now?

How much modification is required for the left side duct on a Carrera? It seems like the feedback on the parts is that you need to do some metal shaping with a hammer??

Jack,

The drivers side on my 85' Carrera pretty much bolted right up, I had more trouble with the passenger side.

Why stop with the heat and go all the way backdating, before

and after. Note the street elbow on the right side, cheap and easy.

keep up the great work guys!!!

Reviving this thread as I am in the process of backdating my Carrera. What did you do with the blower power connector? And do you "shape" the left side duct near the dizzy while bolted on or should I remove it, ballpeen a bit and reinstall? It needs adjusting to get the dist cap on. What would you do?

ball peen jobs kinda look like that. cut out a nice curve, then weld a curved piece of 20ga sheet metal in, grind it out nice and paint.

Thanks John. You're right, that's what I will do. How about the electrical connector? Tape the connector end and Zip tie it to the ?

I've been trying to locate this reproduction heater duct but having no luck. I don't wish to purchase a metal one and fab to fit around my distributor.

Does anybody know where I can find this now????

I have a FG version that Thom used to sell here years ago. I ended up having to peen it to clear my 964 distributor, then reglassed the indentation.

Maybe a WTB post in FS would turn one up?
