yes to both, there wer lots of comparison done right when the car was new.
it was faster around le mans, smoked it in every performance category and the new engine sounds amazing, whereas the old big blocks sounds much more run of the mill (which they were in comparision). i assumed you posted those questions doubting my claims...but the comparisions have been done...and there was a clear winner. edit: sorry for OT/thread steal.... i'm stilling waiting to see what has happened in the last ~week since we saw the rolling chasis. |
matteo
thanks for the info what kind of spring rates are you running (since the car will be street/track)? p.s. I am sure the gt sounds decent but the 3.9 is going to be on a completely diff. level |
I think we are going to use 400/500. I need to check with Keith...
Those spring rates sound really puny when u compared them to the newer cars (GT3s etc)... It is a compromise... I really didnt want a cage in the car. The GT is an attention getter, an easy to drive car, has AC, a stereo etc. The 911 will be a different story altogether. |
|
Very Nice!!
Hope to see you at the Food Lion AutoFair at Lowes Motor Speedway 4/12-15.
|
teo, wow!!! what can i say. what's the break in period.
|
those spring rates sound good
I have 350#F and 550#R that I also had on my old sc Pretty good compromise street/track |
Whoa! Let us know when you go to CMP :D
|
So you don't just drive to the stealership to pick it up?? ;)
Actually, how did Ford handle the transaction? I can't imagine you just went in and grabbed the first salesmen with a shirt that matched his tie and said "I want a GT", did you!? |
There are no more new GTs.
I used a broker. I bought mine unseen, with no pics, no PPI. I just wired the money to a guy I had never heard of. I was so nervous and scared. He did send me the title though. I find it insane that you can't even test these cars before buying them. Having said that I would only allow a potential buyer to drive it if he had a cashier check in my name for the value of the car with him. |
Matteo,
Would like to get my NC visit back on track. Scuffy is up and running, I took her out last night for a blast around town, I think I woke up the folks in my little community as I running a flowmaster right now... LOL ;-) Let me know a good weekend in April, can't wait to see your project. |
Matteo - You my friend own the sexiest car ever made in America.
Congrats |
Note to self... Start a hedge fund.... :)
|
OK... so I went to Zuffenhaus yesterday....
Visual progress is minimal but they have been sorting the harness and elecrical connections... Nonetheless I took a couple of pics... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173272673.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173272712.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173272732.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173272756.jpg |
OK, what gives !! My "PORN" filter didn't catch ANY of these photos !!!!! ;)
Very dangerous !!! I was wondering how you & your car had faired after that bang up. I remember when you first posted it, then I didn't see this thread, evidently for a while. COOL STUFF MAN !!!!!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif |
Hm, the spring rate in the back must be monster-stiff since the ride height and attitude look more or less normal with no engine/tranny installed

To me, starting a hedge fund would be trying to save enough for some shrubs :D Just kidding, I'm sure Matteo works a lot harder than I do! Great perspective, Matteo. You are the exception. Oh, and ischmitz, I think you overlooked one badazz tranny already mounted up. |
teo, wow! i still like your mexico blue demon. i was watching american supercar last night. it was viper against ford gt. awesome fast cars but not to own for me. i'm happy with my baby.
|
ya there is already a 6 speed tranny and an engine block hanging out back.... but i still didn't expect the gt to be THAT much shorter then the 911.
still the 911 has its thing going on, even next to a hyper exotic... have you talked about the Ford Gt driving experience anywhere? |
Anyone notice the obvious similarities?
The 911 is a modern day take on an old classic, and so is Fords GT. The part lines of the 911 have the Ford beat though! Cool cars. |

I have not driven the GT much but it is totally different car. The 911 just shrinks around you and you feel one with the car. With the GT you are aware you are driving a big car. Plus it's heavy. Yes it has a torque monster in the back, but it is still 500 lbs heavier than my 993. I haven't had the confidence of tossing it around much (the fact that it is very clear in my head the memory of writing a big check probably is holding me back a little). The other thing is that in 3rd at 1k rpm you are doing 55 mph. The limits of the car are obvioulsy unreacheable on the street. It feels like the GT would be perfect for a track like VIR (or the Ring or Le Mans (doh) for that matter) but would be too much for a shorter and tighter circuit. For example I did the Tail of the Dragon last Summer with my 993 and I don't think the GT would be as much fun. Hopefully (lots of things need to fit) I will be able to take both cars to CMP for a track day session on May 18. Still trust me guys... the 911 is something special. The fact that the GT is not blowing me away in pure driving experience terms (Ok maybe this is a little early as I haven't really driven it much) is a testament of how good we have it with our 20-30 yr old cars. |
a kickass rsr and a GT40 !! some guys have it all. Enjoy both Matteo :)
Cheers, |
I like your analysis, Teo.
I've been on track in a ferociously driven Carrera GT, and while it is undeniably quick, it lacked "that special visceral feel". The howl one hears from outside a CGT is replaced by a resonating growl inside the car, the car is phenomenally quick on corner entry, and the brakes.........sweet Mother of.....otherworldy. But: 911s are rewarding cars to drive quickly and they certainly don't tolerate mistakes, and take true skills over a few years to even come close to feeling like you've taken it all out of it. I'm not even close to getting all I can out of the 930 - |

and some of us (myself) have not.... Back in 04 (i think) my dad was a potential GT customer, and because of his long standing relationship with B.C. ford we had an all black (no stripes) car for 1 1/2 days... i wasn't allowed to touch the drivers seat...but i can tell you that from the passenger seat it was pretty wild... though my dad disliked the shifter, especially the fact that it was angled.. it does sounds pretty neat though. If i had an ~100k to spend on a supercar it would most likely be my choice... though a nice modern rsr rebuild would make a good arguement. and i agree, we have it very good with our 30 yr old cars. have you taken the gt to redline yet? |

Matteo - I need to see a picture of your wife -
That way I can make the full committment to "I want to be like Matteo" transformation... ;) Very nice... both the GT40 and the 1974/964/3.9l mexico blue screamer What's the difference between a mutual fund and a hedge fund? |
Ok you wanted it... pls refrain from stupid jokes....
Also after this we are going back to talking abt the 911.. OK? Here is the Italian stud, the British chick and the 2 American girls. We are a happy family and I am a really fortunate man! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173368036.jpg |
a wise and wealthy (I don't mean money) man indeed! great family, great perspective on success and great taste in cars!
