Bill, I was able to reprogram the system to cancel the auto lock ignition function.

I decided that I didn't want the valet "programming" button or the red led indicator light mounted anywhere on the dash so I located them in the trunk near the main unit and cut out a small carpet square for access.

mthomas58 - That's cool that it works. Looks like you did a good job installing it too. I think I'd mount it like you did, in the trunk. Now I'm sold on this. I've added this project to the list for this spring.

Great install, Mthomas58. I need to rework mine to look more like yours! What did you do with the huge bird's nest of wires? Also, how is your range? Magic930 said he was able to use his remotes from about 60 feet, but my range is really short, closer to 10 ft. I have the antenna wire mounted above the carpet. Maybe my batteries are old?

Didn't really have a huge birds nest of wires. I cut off the unused wires about a foot from the big connecter. The excess valet and led wires were wound and then zip tied to the board panel (two holes drilled through - zip tie out and back through - holds the wired tightly against the back of the panel) Did the same with the control unit in addition to the double faced foam tape so it would not come loose. All of the other wires to the fues panel were just long enough to get there (routed around the back side of the master brake cylinder.

My range is closer to yours at about 10 ft. Tried yesterday from my coat pocket and it didn't work. Oh well......range really isn't all that important (is it?).

Found a great solution for the limited range issue on the Black Widow cross-referenced here:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/357450-upgrade-available-black-widow-keyless-entry-systems.html#post3393194

Solution is an extended range antenna available from Black Widow. Part # ERM2. Open up unit, unplug old antenna board (connecter is hot glued) plug new antenna lead and route through bulkhead wall behind radio and temporarily mounted on antenna on windshild pillar. Will test range from several locations before settling on a permanent location. Range with this antenna at this location was an amazing 475 feet!!! Cost $18.00

Mark, did you use the diodes, or some other method for the parking lights?

I did use the diodes exactly as those pictured earlier in the thread (important: grey stripe towards the fuse panel). Radio Shack stocks them.

finished! And it locks and unlocks when the key is turned in the ignition, center console light comes on and off too.
Might be because i connected the switched power wire to the indicator fuse terminal #11 that seems to be the only power source that has power in the ON,START,RUN position and NO power at ACCESSORY or OFF (as stated in the manual) for this feature to work.
Also programed the unit "on" for the power switched on lock off unlock feature.
Thanks for the post great upgrade

The green arrows are where i connected into the fuse box, i also did the diode setup, the wires that go to the brown/green and brown/blue wires i just exposed some wire from the unit and folded up against the isolation and back stabbed them in the round plug
Hope this helps someone in the future

The original unit that was listed in this thread has been sold out for months. Has anyone found and installed one that is comparable. I am looking for a unit that basically provides keyless entry for the 964. My key will not lock the drivers door and I am thinking this will kill several birds so to speak.

Thanks,

Kevin

Awesome idea and writeup guys. Has anyone done this on a car with no power door locks? My 83 cab does not seem to have them. Is it a more pain than it is worth job? For Z$30, it would be a ncie thing to have, but still not necessary...

You need power locks or you will have to add allot of stuff in the door panels, the cost will go up and simplicity would become difficult. A job for a audio/alarm shop in your case i think.

Question An Oldy but a Goody Thread DIY Keyless Entry

OK Gents,

Just got my BW854

Preped and tagged all the wires for install. I chose to place my LED in the cab where the Cab Temperature Sensor would have been and place the Valet/Program button in the trunk.

Question I have is the BW unit's Red Wire goes to rcaradimos' #11 or manual's #8 then the Yellow Wire goes to rcaradimos' clock terminal or manual's #1 both in Fuse Panel #1? I know the clock is constant and so is the Hazard Light Indicators, I suspect red goes to #8 because of the 16 amp fuse and the yellow goes to the 5 amp fuse. Need confirmation please.

I chose rcaradimos' method so I won't have the ignition auto lock and not unlock issue.

TIA

I just ordered one of these universal kits off flea-bay for just this purpose, if anyone's interested, I can document the install in a thread.
