While waiting
For the car to get picked up...a few things for the painter to clean up...runs etc. I hoped to have the engine rebuild underway...yeah its almost done
![]() ![]() I am trying to sort through the P and Cs I have to figure out what I am going to use. All my machining is done, and I have all my materials. I needed a small success. The iintake manifolds I have were nasty ![]() I sandblasted them ![]() The insides were pitted and needed to be cleaned up, so I grabbed the die grinder and added a 1 1/2" wire brush ![]() ![]() |

almost done
Cleaned up well, but the internal surface now had the markings of the wire brush
![]() I decided to use my "vertical lathe" and chuck a sanding drum to smooth out the bores ![]() I don't see how someone could do this on a mill...the sanding drum allows me to rotate the manifold to get at the throats easily ![]() Very nice ![]() ![]() And painted...before ![]() and after ![]() |

Laughing at myself loudly~! I see now that it could in fact be a grey! It looked like a blue grey to me in the pics. Cobalt Blue - wow, that will be hot.

Do you think you will have the intake runners CC'd or is it not a big deal?

cc the runners???
people cc the heads - you just want to match the runners to what they attach to also the surface roughness should be adjusted for what you want - super smooth is not always the best idea.... |

I think he means CFM- cubic feet per minute airflow.
I agree with the slightly rough finish on the intake side to promote a higher energy, turbulent boundary layer that can turn corners easier and also would help to keep the fuel atomized in a nice mixture with the air rather than adhering to the walls of the intake runners.

intake manifold...polished?
trust me guys...they are not polished smooth. That was 100 grit on the sanding drum. I needed to remove the rough oxidized areas. The new metal shining through is misleading. And I didn't change the graduation from the carbs down to the intake...just cleaned it up. If you look closely at the painted exterior, you can see the roughness from surface oxidation. The insides were about the same. I think I can "tune" each of the barrels using my synchrometer when I get the carbs set up....thats what I have done before and it worked fine.

Lars,
This is such a tease of a thread. Every time I click "last page" I am disappointed because there's no pic of your car back from paint. WHEN??? |

My fault...Bob...you are right
Car is done and should be picked up. I was supposed to have the engine built and I have continually run into speed bumps with the machine shops, parts suppliers etc. I have engine parts strewn all across the garage space where the car will end up. It is amazing to me...like the bucket of water that takes up so little space. When the bucket is spilled, the water covers fifty times more area. Same with engine parts. Assembled, the engine takes up relatively little area...whereas in a disassembled state, the parts cover a significantly larger area. That "larger area " is what needs to get quickly freed up. I head in tomorrow to Denver to pick up the balance of P and Cs I need. Then I do a marathon build to get it(the engine) completed and the area cleared for the car. I am dreading the call from the painter to come pick up the car. Weird psychology I guess. I am psyched to get it back, but don't want to be tripping over myself when it comes back.

Just pile all that junk engine stuff in the back left corner of the garage with all your other crap. Get the car already...we wanna see how the paint turned out!
And Cobalt Blue? Sweet, so Albert Blau is left for my car. ![]()

...Everytime I hear about the issue of 'space' - it gets attention. It's a fulltime hobby of mine.....to try and generate more space. It is a constant thing where clutter is always waiting to pile up here or there. Clutter is a pain in the neck really. Some guys are real comfortable with it. Others.......can't stand it.
In some ways - it's unavoidable....unless you change the way you live. I recall a few restaurants in Negril where the 'owner' was a cat with just a 'shack' for a kitchen. He cooked jerk pork at his roadside stand...8' to the side of the road - his overhead next to nothing. A Chalkboard for marquis. There's a certain beauty in that. And his product was very good in quality. Anthony Quinn - always recall him in 'Zorba the Greek'..... where he raises his arms as he begins to dance....looks up smiling and says, "I have nothing....I'm free." ...Sharing this for entertainment only _________________ '82 Targa '80 928 |

But isn't there a LOT of space in Searchlight? And didn't Mr. Quinn have enough space to dance in? |

Problems with space afflict us all - regardless of town. Once you put down roots and furnish a dwelling, 'things' begin to accumulate regardless of how big or small your roof is. . .(to a point).
That said - if you have a 6000 sq ft and few furnishings in it - you have an advantage that most don't have. But large homes present other problems.... and tons more maintenance issues. freethe space.com ______________ |

eye candy...not for the purists
I think it is trick...although it is sure to "ruffle some feathers"
![]() I had an extra tach and decided that I like both the green number'd early instruments, and the 10k tachs...so off he went to N. Hollywood for a facelift and recalibration. He will look good with the rest of the family in here... ![]() wait...that's Cobalt blue! |

LOVE that tach!
I am not a purist, so I'll say it, that tach looks GREAT! Would look better with the needle bouncing off of 10k though...
