Never could see paying extra every year for a vanity tag, especially since its a gubmit requirement to have a tag at all. If it was a one time thing, maybe. But here in Cali, they charge you extra each year for the priviledge.

Here in California, land of fruits and nuts, a portion of the personalized plate fund goes to environmental groups such as the radical organization called Sierra Club.
As an avid off roader, I opposed radical groups such as the Sierra Club because they want every off road area closed and when they are successful, no new area's open to ease the over crowding of the other area's that are open. They along with such groups as PEER and CBD ban together, pool their funding and have been successful in closing much of California's off road riding area's. They NEVER mitigate land (give this for that) So, in my opinion, you can take the environmenatl/personalized plate program and stick it up Feinstein and Boxers respective derier's. |

I debated for some time over this subject when i got my 911. I really wanted 'NLA' (reference to air cooled 911's, longhoods, etc) but it was taken. Considered 901 also but opted against it.
Instead i chose a plate that i felt would share my feelings about the car and why i like to drive it. I went with 'ONRAMP'. Probably a bit dorky but i can tell you guys i am one heck of a major leage dork. I like that it doesn't imply an exclusivity or snobbishness nor does it claim that i am fast. it simply says that i really, really love accelerating out of turns and flat out get wood if the turn happens to be downhill onto a fast highway.

For several years, I put 'NUNBETR" on my wife's coupe. I enjoyed the 'inside' joke of having most people think it said None better, instead of my description of my gambling ex-nun bride.

I think that it is your car and if you want to put something on it to personalize it to your attitude then what is the difference between personalized tags and wheels , spoilers, or say body kits not originally installed on your car. To each his/her own I say.
That said I have owned my pride for about 8 years and have had 2 different sets of personalized tags for her that whole time. I am a paid Firefighter in Va. so my first set was Professional Firefighter (also read as union) tags that said "911911". My next and current tags are Volunteer Firefighter ( no longer in union) tags that read "F911D". So I say keep personalizing you cars however you feel fit to for lets face it if people looked down on all types of this, I guess we would all enjoy our cars just a little less. I, too, worry about the ease with which some tags can be recalled. I recall once,..at a redlight,..making a left hand turn towards the next redlight (.4 miles down the road)...got on it pretty good,..began to brake for the upcoming redlight,..only to see some stupid idiot go barreling through this redlight (in the right lane) and hit someone T-bone style.....terrible accident....2 hours later, there's a knock at my door,...it's the County Sheriff. Tells me someone observed that we were "racing"....I nearly had a heart attack. Informed the officer that there was no racing going on (that I was aware of...) I braked and the ******* went thru the redlight nearly killing someone......end of story. Ever since, I've contemplated ditching the tag and going for something a bit more obscure (and harder to remeber by sight).
Best,

When I first got my 911 I considered getting personalized plates, but I have the MY correct California "blue plates" on it now and (to me) it's a little cooler than having the updated style plates, but personalized.
That being said - it's your car... do what makes you happy!

I wanted something different but couldn't find anything I liked that wasn't used, then I went with the year, and last three didgets of the VIN. 89 615. It's a Targa and there were only 860. I am surprised that more Porsche people don't pick up on it. Most ask what it means.

Personally, I'm too cheap to spend whatever it is to get a vanity plate. I also like not having something that's easy to remember (by cops or witnesses). But I did think it was funny, though, to see a new DB9 this weekend with the plate: SPOONFD.

I think they are kind of silly but I do have 79 SC for my plate. I do still get "what year is that?" though

I became a grandfather at age 45 via second marriage. The focus of my plates is the kids. I'm Papamark and my wife is Mannie.
The rear plate is self-explanitory. The front has a story: The kids have the typical problems with words that start with "s". One day, Michael was telling Mannie that he still liked the scooter he got for Christmas. HM-ITLMC = "Hey Mannie, I till like my cooter". I can't remember laughing so hard in my life! ![]() ![]()

Which brings up another interesting fashion statement, the faux Euro plate.
