The number of cars you own/have owned is a way of showing the stops youv'e made along the road and how you got to where you are now. I personally am not adverstising anything and I sure don't feel damaged or like I'm doing damage.
I'm sure you aren't doing any "damage," but do the myriad companies who put flawless models in their ads feel they are doing any damage to the psyche of our American youth? I'm sure it doesn't even cross their minds, which is my point. Obviously you have considered it, so good on ya. I got my first Porsche in '73 and so my journey goes back a while. I could care less though if somebody has the resources to go out and buy 5 or 10 in one fell swoop. If I had the resources I'd love to be able to do that. But isn't that how we got to where we are now... America consuming 50% or more of the world's goods while making up less than 10% of the world's population? I think Roy Rogers said it best... "We spend money we don't have to buy things we don't need to impress people we don't know." I think it was Roy Rogers. From my perspective the signature and the plate is about passion not advertising but then again that's just me. Passion? About an object? Shall I go on?

autovon,
I didn't think this was an OT thread... How the heck and why did you make this leap? Think about it, your whole assault on American culture was inspired by a thread on personalized license plates... One last thing to clarify, I don't own a Porsche to impress anybody. I drive a '99 Crown Vic to work every day. 90% of my time driving is spent in that car. As far as passion about an object goes, if you think that passion for Porsches is just associated directly to the object you really miss the whole point... Its about experiences, sensations, memories, places you have gone, people you met that you never would have otherwise who each share that common joy, it's the history, the idea, the ...why bother. By now you are probably just calculating the gas I used along the way.... Good luck to you.....

a few years ago my other car was a '73 Jeep Commando. I can't lay my hands on it for a pic, but I have a chrome license plate frame with a decal I had made up. it read....
" MY OTHER CAR IS AN AMC " |

I'm currently shopping (I may be an owner in two days), and the couple times I've mentioned it while discussing cars or driving, it's always "Ohhhhh, a Porsche...." Then I explain the relative low price, a low price that basically doesn't depreciate, and then point out the new BMW or Volvo they've recently purchased or thinking about purchasing and let them know that BOTH of my cars (current and prospective) cost just a little more than their single new purchase. But yeah, most people don't realize that you can step into a well used Porsche for relatively cheap. Vanity plates might as well say "Mess with my car," as far as I'm concerned. I, personally, wouldn't want to put one on a car that most people already see as having "the pricks on the inside." YMMV |

I was thinking of getting something like "M491" after explaining for the umpteenth time that, no, it's not a turbo.
Of course, even more people would probably ask "What does M491 stand for?" So, instead of blowing $30.00 on what some seem to see as a crime against nature, I'll just add that money to my environmentally correct race tire fund. ![]()

Guys, give me a break. I'm in the military presently deployed to 29 Palms, CA. If you've ever been here, you would understand. The only things they have a lot of here is beer and sand.
