Got some engine updates today! These photo's are of crankshaft and clutch being balanced. Also some pic's of the rod's being weighed. I know that the piston's have been weighed and matched ready for the build.

I wonder what the reasoning would be for not allowing a "welded in" roll-cage car on the public roadway? Perhaps just wanting to keep fast race cars from multiplying on the streets and highways? Great build!

unfortunately our roads and traffic authority in NSW, Australia, is well... S#$t. They have adopted a zero tolerance approach to just about anything modified. The reasoning went something like this:
' If we allow modified vehicles on the road, and these modifications aren't done correctly the vehicle may perform worse than the factory specification, thus unsafe for driver and the rest of the community' that's the essence of the concept. unfortunately a few too many idiot built backyard cages etc, were involved in accidents, and subsequently the "cage" was at fault. It's a great example of how they use misguided statistics to validate a view. By this I mean if you have a traffic accident (assume a minor rear end collision), yet you had a front roll cage, the cage would be a contributing factor. Forget the drivers stupidity, you have a front cage therefore your vision is impeded, so its the cage's fault. Go figure? (it's a raw point from my perspective)

External body works
So I got the external body work images today.
The body has been walnut blasted, and then hand finished. It's great getting back to this stage as you find any potential issues before the paint and it all become too late to deal with. ![]() ![]() with the internal ready to go, and only a bit of external work left to finish it won't be long until we get some color down.

So if you went to the authorities and told them you wanted to install an FIA certified cage in your car to protect yourself from the other crazy drivers out there, they would tell you to bugger off and drive your classic with minimal protection from the thin pillars?

Fantastic project !! Would you do the same for my '78 SC ??!!
Question: When you balance the crank and clutch like this, what are you trimming into balance ?? It would make sense to my feeble brain to shave the clutch since you will eventually be changing that down the road...

Short Block Assembly
Attached are some pictures of the short block assembly.
I'm envisaging getting pictures of the long block assembly mid next week to share with everyone. ![]() ![]() ![]() Basically body and engine are being worked on at the same time. The body should be ready for paint (at least the undercarriage) by next week as well. This looks like it will start to come together at the perfect time.
