There are three essential 'issues' they have with the roll cage.

1. The cage running down along the A-Pillar would 'block your view' - so you can't drive safely

2. The cage intrusion bars protecting driver from a side impact are unsafe because in an accident they will crush you, and you will die (or some similar stupid logic)

3. A cage in the front near the firewall etc will also kill you in a accident because it will crush you (see comment on point 2).

It's the dumbest approach is the world. It's really driven by people who have done dodgy cages, then been in accidents. They don't think as far motorsports success with using cages to 'survive', only the fact that in an accident, done wrongly will impede you chances of surviving.
You might want to check a bit further with some of the Sydney Porsche shops - If what you say is correct, then how do they get GT3RS's registered in NSW? They have a full cage with only the side bars as bolt in.

The side bars are generally not allowed to be welded in as the view is they impede access and egress in an emergency - same reason you are not allowed to wear full harness seatbelt on the road.

Would love to see the car at a Porsche Club of NSW track day when it gets here.

Im pretty sure they are registered with the back half of the cage and the front section and sidebars bolt up.

I'm fairly sure that this is the case as well.

The rules from what I can see are very difficult to deal with. IE certain front cages could get approved - such as those hard up against the firewall. But these cages cannot connect to the rear - only by bolt in for these sections...

Also newly manufactured and registered vehicles have it easier in a round about way...

The joys of the RTA in NSW.

Update from Patrick Motorsports

So, my project has been deemed worthy of the Patrick Motorsports website. You can visit the link

http://www.patrickmotorsports.com/project/57/

Most of the images I have posted are on the forum, but there are a couple of things that have been left off.

Hoping to have the long block pictures to be posted later this week.

Out of curiosity, why is the engine cover grill filled? Awesome project.

The probably best explanation is on the Patrick Motorsports website:

Patrick Motorsports - 1974 Carrera RSR Twin Turbo

Essentially because we have to fit the 993TT engine (including inter-coolers), you need to fabricate a 'new' deck-lid with clearance.

I see. So it'll kind of be like a whale-ducktail. They flatten the top to clearance the intercooler. I figured it had something to do with the intercoolers, but was just curious. I wasn't sure if they'd use the OEM routing of the intercooler, or if they'd take Ruf's routing and lay the intercoolers on either side of the engine inside of the engine compartment. So I see that they'll be using the OEM routing.

Fantastic project.

So they are going to cut holes/slots in it later?

I have seen 930s with custom bent/cut+welded intercoolers that fit under normal ducktails without shrouding.

There will be holes cut into them eventually once the final gaps are all sorted on the body.

It's better to get the most efficient design / layout for the engine, then get the body to fit afterwards.

In high fill prior to paint

What a difference a week and a bit makes, the car is almost ready now!

Attached are the pictures of the high filled car just about ready for paint. I'm so excited now, I can almost see the car put together! admittedly i know its a bit longer to go but its a big step

Got the seats today...

We got the seats on Friday which is awesome. The wheels are due next week....

Paint has been a pain in the ass. For some reason the slate grey code seems to be different from a few different paint companies. There's a bit of difference, but I'm close to getting it right.

At the end of the day I don't really think it's going to matter, as the car isn't original in any event, but I do want to get it as close to right as possible.

The set back with color has put this all back a bit. Hopefully we will be on track this week.

Test fitting prior to paint

So because we needed to cut out the duck tail, and it obviously needed to occur prior to being painted, the car's been back in fabrication getting the last test fit prior to painting.

The long and short of it all is that we've moved the engine forward as much as possible to get clearance on the inter-cooler. We also need this because there isn't a great deal of room for the exhaust back there, so it's a lot easier to do the test fit now, without the worry of paint than after paint has occurred.

Also it was decided that we should prepare and test fit all the oil lines etc now, include fabricate any brackets, clip spots, etc, so they all get painted and look as factory as possible.

The long and short of it is that it's not seeing paint this week.

but you do get to seem some photos of the car coming together...

which is a small consolation prize, because it's looking good.

Great looking car Everything looks so perfect
Do you use brackets for holding the turbos or are they sitting on the exhaust pipes?
