Headlight seal
Just got finished trying to install seal for headlights. Both seals split at glue joint. Tried to keep tension off joint when installing, but still no luck.
Any hints to make this easier? What glue should I use to piece together? Thanks Vince |

When I broke my last one, I glued it with super glue - while I bought 2 more from PP.

vinny, i also had this problem, broke one, returned both--make sure you get the OEM porsche seals and not the repros.
There is a difference in quality, and be gentle!

Tape down the glued end then gentle place the seal, use some dielectric grease to help it along, snap, that should do it. Once you are happy, carefully remove the tape.

I also brok one. Put the other in the sun for a while and gently stretched the material around the perimeter EXCEPT for the joint. I simply installed the broken on with the "break" at the bottom of the light

Permatex Weather strip glue, available at any autoparts store, works just fine in glueing the ends back together. When doing this fix, I minimumally trim with a razor blade, both ends prior to glueing, and allow the glue to cure before handling and attempting to install. As stated previously, BE GENTLE, and use tape (masking) as DRACO Jim stated. Also, as Ben stated, you want to orient the break at the six oclock position.

Per Draco & Nine9Six replies, these pictures may help.
Tack the seam to the fender with a dot of weather srtip cement in the six o'clock position and work your way around the circumference, taping as you go. The first two tape placements isolate the seam from the stretching. Also, note the correct orientation of the seal in the last pic. Good luck Joe ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Is the seal mentioned here the correct one for H4 headlights?
(seal 911-631-115-02-M136 ) My kit was included in a box of parts from the previous owner and did not include the seals Thanks in advance.

That is the part number of the Pelican seals that I used recently when I installed new H4's on my 79SC. I followed pretty much the instructions on this thread. I used silicon glue on both sides of the rubber rings to better seal against the fenders and the H4 rings. Also it makes the final mounting of the H4's easier and they act not so sticky against the seals.

The ends of my H4 seals came unglued as well. I just sewed them together with a needle and black thread. A couple stitches is all it took.

Not quite sure but if you look at the white car pic you can see the edge on top of the bucket that the headlight ring had to go over to get hooked into place. At least that is what I remember when I replaced my rings. I had reproductions from S t o d d a r d and they were fatter than original. It was a pain.

the pic is a cross-section thru the seal, aka gasket
the J lip below it is the mtl flange around the headlight BTW - these seals have only a partial join at one point and that is where they break - maybe it was purposeful to allow water to drip - who knows |
