Q2: Yes you will need to remove the guard plate. Actually replacing the hoses isn't all that hard. A bit tedious and dirty for sure but all in all it's pretty straightforward. One thing I'd recommend though is tie some to cord to the ones that go to the front condenser when you pull them out to use to help feed the new ones back in.

A mixture of refrigerant oil, carbon break down of old rubber hoses, maybe dye tracer or sealant (don't use sealants).
Filter the liquid through a white coffee filter and inspect for metal particles (5x loop works). New barrier hoses, drier, o-rings, low high pressure switch as a minimum. Hope some of that red hue is Dr. Pep Cherry! Good thread so far!

I ordered a full hose kit from Griffith. I probably won't get to the hoses this weekend but should be able to post more over the weekend on installation of the new front condenser, prep and reassembly of the EVAP and blower box, TXV and copper guide tube and hopefully reinstall the rear condenser and rear deck lid. I removed the rear deck to repair or replace the third brake light. I'm piggybacking on Autoban's thread on modifying his third brake light - found here - '86 Cab custom third brake light with flasher

Good choice.
You could have fiddled and saved a few bucks with the cost of time. However, GT stuff does not break. There is comfort in that. I think the suction side hose is a little longer so you can get the AC compressor well out of the way for valve adjustments.

Ramp... u run into any problems with the hose, you're welcome to call me. 786-449-4488. Am passing on the PelicanBro "call-me" --- I've benefited from that... thank you Ron on the relay. Not to brag but I've done hose a few times... not on same 911 if that means anything. I have Grif's system in my Targa. No one does better install instructions than CG. Equip is primo. And tech support lasts forever! No AC company supports their product better.

CG does make top shelf parts. His instructions are even better. I wish I had a complete repair manual for my 911 written by Griffiths. It would be 30 volumes and anyone could rebuild any part of the car.
I have had my Griffiths system for right at 10 years. It is the best investment in my 911 I have made in the 20 years I have owned it. I can drive my car on 100+ degree days in comfort. You will love the final result. Swapping the hoses is dirty work but not very difficult. Just follow his instructions step by step. Good luck and keep posting!

Last week took care of some small things -clean all grounds and battery terminals, started cutting a baffle for the Evap housing, put the front condenser blower with new motor/fan assembly back together, cleaned up the speed control and area, removed dryer, and took the clutch off the compressor.
Q: Take a look at the compressor - It was pretty clean and I didn't see and signs of leaking so I may juts put it back on - Thoughts ? Today I dove into the hoses- not too bad so far but it's a dirty job- the lift is great but in the way a bit to get at the underside hoses Started with the front condenser hoses and put up the new front condenser from Griffiths. EDIT: I attached a bunch of Pics but they're not showing ?? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

How long should it take a knowledgeable porsche tech to replace all hoses in my 1974 with front and rear condensers?

The convenience of a lift makes all the difference in the world for this kind of job. I'd say someone who knows what they're doing and doesn't run into something like a stuck hose fitting that wastes a bunch of time -- couple of hours to get them off and a couple of hours to get them on.
