I put a muff on my mic but I think that excessive length of the mic wire is killing the quality. Mine sits atop the wheel hub ![]()

Painted up some engine parts and made a glow in the dark front sway bar. The pictures just don't do it justice, the only word for it in my opinion is simply "awesome!"

geno - the muff will help with some wind noise, but it also messes with the pattern, and can widen it to where it picks up peripheral noise, which can actually make things worse.
surprisingly, there isn't a lot to choose from out there, and it gets even more complicated when you find that there are 2.5mm and 3.5mm connectors, which means you may have to use an adaptor. microphones have various pattern shapes. for something like this, first you have to start with a hypercardioid mic. it's more directional than an omni, a piezo, or a cardioid. then, you can start messing with the assembly, and convert it to a shotgun mic, which is even more directional. i'm working on the vent slit size and spacing now, for a sleeve that will slide over the mic, and tighten up the pattern. note: the cable length really is not an issue, as long as it's less than 12 ft or so. |

Well I have them mocked up. (They are slid all the way back in the pics)
I'll drill the sliders and actually install them this weekend. ![]() ![]()

Is there an off the shelf mic in the format you're talking about that does 75% + of a perfect job in the position I have it mounted? Any picture of what you have/where you mounted it?

there aren't many choices out there. not sure why that is.
this is what i am currently running. it's used with many brands of decks. it's the only directional mic i have found so far. it is a 2.5mm connector. i have it mounted on the steering column as well clarion makes one that is 3.5mm, but it is more of an omni. i've also seen a piezo out there, but that would be even worse. the issue with this mic is the interjection of noise from the side. it's a very sensitive mic, which is great for picking up low level voices, but it also means it picks up other noise (like in a convertible or feedback from your stereo). as i said, i'm working on making it more of a shotgun, which should help block some of that noise. |

While the car is still at the paint/body shop (free winter storage!!!!), I decided to R&R the windshield wiper motor assembly. That fine German fellow has a great Youtube video...

Today I FINALLY removed my HVAC box!!!! It took over a year, but I finally got around to getting this bastard out so I can replace the foam seals.
First I removed the blower motor and its related parts ![]() ![]() Then I drained my heater core ![]() It's out! ![]() Nice and yucky in there ![]() The after math ![]() Then I took it apart so I could get to all the little flaps. This should be fun to put back together... ![]() |

Replaced the front calipers with rebuilds from Autozone, and rebuilt the rears myself. Rear calipers were not really working at all.
Drivers rear piston was rusted in place, but 30 minutes in a heated ultrasonic cleaner freed it up. Thankfully it was just surface rust between end of the piston and caliper. Passengers side had a bit of rust in the same spot but moved a little. Also installed Lart's brake lines while I was there and flushed all new brake fluid though the system. Stomp on the brakes now and you'll about go though the windshield. Finished up installing Lart's fuel lines under the hood. |

Hi-Lo Headlights work again!
Thanks to the Forum, I learned that the Hi-Lo beam switch is actually in the wiper switch and not in the turn signal switch. Cool. Just before I ordered a combo package signal/wiper switch, I pulled it apart and lo, no pun intended, discovered that there is a hook on the turn switch that must engage to the wiper switch for proper operation. Problem solved! No Money! While I was there, I changed the dash bulb that was out. If I could just find out how to wake them brighter. Screw it. Now to find that damned little trim screw! My sunroof still opens automatically when the car is in motion, but that is for another day. I just pulled the relays again. Thanks for all the helpful info.

now that I have the 951 running, fired up the 928 that has been sitting in my home garage for a couple months and took it to the shop.
will be driving the 951 whenever I get the chance to finish the engine break in and get the new clutch broken in before my first DE April 25. Chunkerz replacing the HVAC blower motor on the 928 is my next project. ![]()

Wednesday I took off the winter wheels, Friday we had 5-6 inches of snow?
While swapping the wheels I decided to have the front rotors refaced and re-grease the bearings. Oh! what joy to find the driver side bearings were pretty worn and the passenger side had worn SKF Cups (probably original) with new looking FAG races. Got to love whoever worked on this one before I bought it. Still cookie cutters are going to get refurbished then fitted with new boots for the summer leaving the tele dials for winter. |
