Mr James, are you bitter because you live in The Woodlands or Kingwood? What exactly is the Governor supposed to do when a city tries to annex an outlying area and what does that have to do with John Edwards?

I can't imagine campaigning for President when your wife is dying from cancer, but then I can't imagine staying with someone who is a serial adulterer and constantly cheated on me either.

I don't have the right priorities to be a successful politician it would seem.

He's obviously dedicated himself to the American People. As much as he loves his own children, there are millions of children across the country whose futures will depend on his strong and principled and morally steadfast leadership. His willingness to place the needs of a nation before the needs of his own children should tell you guys something about this great leader.

I don't know how to state this without offence, but this is the exact reason why professional politicians, and the system that supports them, needs reform. Term limits at a minimum, funding reform now.

We vote in November, 2008. Think about that and the meaning of this press conference.

When my wife had her ultrasound on our second child, they thought there might be signs of spinal-bifida...in the ensuing two weeks between the potential and the next appointment, we rearranged our priorities, jobs and ambitions to support what we thought would be our handicapped child. No thought to our needs, but our child.

Turned out the initial ultrasound was in error, but my wife and I gained much in terms of our priorities.

thats not what i heard. are you thinking of what she was diagnosed with right at the end of the run VP in 2004?

i heard she beat the breast cancer and what showed up this time was something on one of her ribs but the Dr's give her a real good chance of beating this one too.

what if she was the one that told him to still run, despite her illness. how would you handle not honoring her wishes? I'm sure if they decided that she wasn't going to beat the cancer he would pull out.

not all politicians are as callus as some of the people on this board.

Mrs. Edwards broke a rib. On X-ray it was found that the bone was weakened by tumor. They also found another tumor growth in another rib. Breast cancer that has spread to bone is considered incurable. For every visible sign of tumor growth in her ribs, there are probably countless microscopic tumor nests growing in her spine, brain and lungs. Cancer specialists would quote her chances of surviving 5 years as less than 5%. Because her cancer reoccured so quickly after chemo and radiation (3 years) it is reasonable to assume that her cancer is a particularly aggressive one.

With good therapy the tumor growth may be slowed a bit, but in all likelihood Mrs. Edwards is dying.

tech, you and thom are pretty funny. Shouldn't you have asked if Newt's wife and the former Mrs Giuliani were running. Interesting how you picked the peripheral reference rather than address the selfishness of the man we are talking about with respect to his wife and children.

Even if she insisted he run, it would still be awful choice to make. It is not that he is that interested in "dedicating his life to the American people" It is that he is that interested in himself and his run for the white house.

He is a young man, he could do the right thing for his family, and still run in a few years after she has passed away and his children are in a better position to deal with the loss. I have seen people die of metastatic bone cancer and it is not pretty. His children are going to go through that alone. He might even have gotten my vote if he had done that, and I am a doctor, his sworn enemy. Instead, he shows his true priorities, and they are pretty fuched up, even if you only think about it for the briefest instant with the partisan sunglasses off.

How terrible would it be for a man like that to be elected president?

Edwards just announced a press conference for tomorrow. I'm guessing he'll drop out of the race. Can't imagine any man leaving home for a two year road show under these circumstances.

I saw an interview with Edwards wife on C Rose when he was running for VP. Bright woman, dedicated to her husbands campaign....its really too bad. I agree with Moses here, shes gona die and not pretty either. She has about a year and a half. I couldn't imagine running for President under those circumstances. I do hope he drops out, otherwise I think the mans a snake.
