Damn that game 4 was another biggie! Terrific on both sides. Go Hawks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

Sloppy game, but Chicago had their number all night. Ole lady luck kept Boston in it.

flatbutt 06-20-2013 06:58 AM

11 goals....what a dogfight. If this doesn't go 7 games I'll be stunned

Entertaining game (maybe not from the coaches standpoint) but something for everyone. Crawford has to start playing some baseball in the off-season to work on his glove. The Broons seem to be consistently shooting high glove side. Hey Flatbutt - you were/are a netminder - What do you think?
Cheers

Crawford had his glove on or below his pads on several goals. I suspect he is very tired.

Neither goalie was sharp all night, but Rask kept the Bruins in the game in the first period.

High glove side can be a weakness. Positioning the open mitt in anticipation of the shot requires a ton of experience and great instinct. So it is a high percentage shot as is high stick side. If the keeper has the glove down by the knee it takes that split second longer to cover the high hole. If he keeps it out from the body like a first baseman it opens the hole between his arm and the body. Plus if the keeper is known to flop to the butterfly that creates a HUGE hole on the high glove side.

Loved playing goalie!!!

Funny, I kinda disagree....respectfully. Keeping your glove low allows better coverage of the entire glove side. Keeps you in position for the dangerous low snapper. Reaction time and accuracy is better in an upswinging motion than a downswing one. Now....low on the blocker side.....that's the real tricky one!!! Plus the tighter low glove stance aids in keeping the body "sprung" for fastest reaction.

The glove should never be below/behind the pad. I think it was on a couple of goals.

You're not wrong my friend. But not every keeper can snap the leather up that quickly. And if it is a known weakness it could explain why so many shots were being placed there.

Buckterrier 06-21-2013 11:00 AM

I think I heard Barry Melrose say this morning that 9 out of the 12 Boston goals have been on the glove side.

RE last two posts.
Its a very definite week spot in this case for sure. I would be crowding my angles to cut down the shot zone, I always adjust my angles to over compensate for a weak low blocker side game. Take that shot away and it lets you show off with a quick glove save!! Best practice ever was to stand in net placed about four feet from and facing a concrete wall, have your father stand behind you whipping tennis balls with his wicked serve at the wall and bouncing back at you!!! The best thing about the modern goalie is how well good ones can skate and play the puck!!
"flatbutt"... Kelly Hrudey played that high and forward glove style you are talking about....he sure as heck made it work well enough to play more than a few seasons!

Buckterrier 06-22-2013 07:23 PM

Another glove side goal, although it was an awesome shot, that's 11 outa 13, (I stated 9-12 when it was 10-12).

GO HAWKS!!

mattdavis11 06-22-2013 07:56 PM

That was not an easy win. Boston has a chance to bounce back. But they don't skate fast enough to take it all.

flatbutt 06-22-2013 07:59 PM

oh baby am I ever enjoying this!

intakexhaust 06-22-2013 08:03 PM

yes HAWKS!

Lucic's little demonstration at the buzzer... LOL

s_morrison57 06-23-2013 08:29 AM

It's all falling into place, I figured that they'd split the first 4 games and then it was going to be a home team series after that, Hawks in seven.
That was a terrible non-call on the trip at the very end of the game, that should have been a penalty, would it have changed the out come of the game? Who knows.
I heard 1 of the announcers say that if these teams played 100 games, they'd each win 50.
I can't wait for game 6

mattdavis11 06-24-2013 08:04 PM

Blackhawks win!!! Had to know Boston created bad juju when they cut the temp for the chillers and turned the ice into slush to try to slow Chicago down.

89911 06-24-2013 08:20 PM

Karma. Goes back to the Toronto series but this time on the wrong side. Epic collapse.

intakexhaust 06-24-2013 08:32 PM

Hawks dig deep. WoW!

Gotta luv Andrew Shaw - bloody schmacked up, holding the cup high and on national TV say's 'p'ucking A man! (sub the p for an f and the censors didn't zap it :D)

Buckterrier 06-25-2013 03:22 AM

OK OK OK I went to bed when the Broons scored to go up 2-1 with 7 and change left in the 3rd http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat5.gif

Just watched the highlights!!!!

Boy give the 'Hawks all the credit in the world. No quit in those guys what so ever. Broons built for the playoffs? They had those collapses the whole 2nd half of the season. Remember how they ended the regular season?

CONGRATS to the "Hawks
