I just wondered if those chipped up fancy cams would make any class difference.
I learned a LOT about suspension setup on the 88 944 Turbo S I had. Did a lot of research and found that you only need the suspension to be stiff enough to keep the travel from bottoming out or hitting the stoops. Any stiffer and you are just harshing the ride. Same thing with sway bars and dampners. The most important part is for the suspension to be balanced. AND tires will make the biggest difference on ride harshness. Poly bushings are way too harsh for a street car. Brakes…When top gear did the thing when they took a hatch and spent money to try to get a faster lap time and they upgraded the brakes. They seemed astounded that upgrading the brakes did not improve the lap time. You don't upgrade brakes for a quicker lap. You upgrade brakes because they overheat lap after lap, and fade/fail. I am the only one I know of that overheats stock brakes at an autocross. Maybe it's because I trail brake on turn-in to setup a four wheel drift. As far as lightening up the car…In my 944 Turbo at the autocross weight did not make much difference. What I lost in acceleration and braking I gained in corner speed. I noticed this one time when I had set FTD at an autocross then gave a ride to a large person on the fun runs and someone had left the timing gear on. My time with a passenger was exactly the same as my FTD. I also notice my speed at the end of the long straight when I had to start braking was 10 mph slower. After getting the Boxster I did a fast lap with an empty tank and 80 lbs removed from the car. Went and gassed up and put everything back in the car. Same lap times. That is hen I quit removing the spare tire, tool kit, and all that stuff from my car to autocross. I'm not saying weight reduction doesn't help, but a couple of hundred pounds doesn't make much difference to me. On the 944 Turbo having the A/C on actually put enough load on the motor to keep the turbo spooled up for gear changes and made lap times faster because you could get back in the power quicker. Considered putting a fuel injector in the exhaust manifold that sprayed when lifting the throttle turned the fuel off to keep the turbo spinning. That's what is done on race turbos, you can tell because flames shoot out the exhaust when they are decelerating. Man I gotta get my foot rehabbed so I can drive in anger again. Just can't seem to blip the throttle on downshifts or threshold brake or even right foot traction control, basically anything one might consider finesse with the right foot, since the nail.

Weight makes a bigger difference on a 200 hp car. Your 944 and 928 are close to double that. Even the Boxster had much better power to weight ratio than a old 911. I would like to play with brake balance. I know my rear brakes are working hard because there is a lot of brake dust after an autocross. It would be interesting to see if I could make them work just a bit harder since the tires are bigger and there is more weight back there. I would have to start reading the autocross section of Pelican to really learn about brake balance on a 911.

Yep, I played with brake balance as well. There are several different stock bias valves. 18, 33, 45, 55, and 60. My 944 turbo, 928GT, and 928GTS came with the 18. 33 was enough for the 944 turbo. 55 for the 928 GT, and I put a 55 in the 928GTS and it is a bit too much i need to back it down to the 45. I assume the 911 bias valve is already higher, but if you want a 55, just get a 45 and I will trade you. The valve has a number stamped in one of the wrench flats denoting which valve it is, ie. 5/18 or 5/33 etc.
Here are the part numbers Brake Bias Valve 60 bar 965 355 305 01 Brake Bias Valve 55 bar 964 355 305 10 Brake Bias Valve 45 bar 964 355 305 00 Brake Bias Valve 33 bar 928 355 305 02 Brake Bias Valve 18 bar 951 355 305 01

I don't know off of the top of my head if there is a brake bias valve in my 911 now or not. I don't remember seeing it.
Rick, do you know if a 80s 911 has a brake bias valve that is separate from the master cylinder?

My cars were all ABS and the ABS manifold is where the bias valves were.

I think ABS has something to do with a six pack and beer.

I am not sure where you found those HP numbers. A stock 1985 911 is rated right at 200. I bet I don't get close to 235 when I dyno my 911.
Your 951 was not even close to stock HP. My car is 2,741 lbs without my fat butt in it. When I had it corner balanced I had 1/3 tank of gas in it. If I see 235 HP at the dyno I will be astonished. I will be surprised to see 220.

I think next year I'm going to skip Christmas.
I have one gift that is about one day from becoming "just give me my money back". Seems a tracking number has been issued from the shipper but they are waiting for a call to come get it. The supplier is waiting for a tacking number to be issued. Next year everyone gets a link to this thread and that's it!

Just buy all your gifts from Pelican. They do great for shipping on time with no hassles.

That would seem like a good idea but since I have the only 911 in the family it might look bad if I get all the goodies.

Those hp numbers are the Porsche factory specs. Which means they are crank hp not rear wheel hp.
my white 88 944 Turbo S was stock with stock hp until well after I did all the suspension mods. The black 89 944 Turbo was never factory stock and never made less than 300 rear wheel hp.

I don't understand, what can be wrong for everyone to receive a gift that is for the 911. Since they will have no real use for it they can sell it to you for 10 cents on the dollar. I think it is a perfect plan. I got my wife rod bolts and head studs for Christmas and I even let her have them early. She loved them.

Evening Y'all
Glen, nope sorry you will be heading to the aftermarket world if you want to play there. Well going to Pittsburgh this weekend, I detest that drive but it will be fun to see the grand kids. Lets hope I don't kill their father.

Kinda what I thought about the valve. I may try softer pads in the rear first.

Hawk HP+ in the rear and something a little less bitie up front would do the trick, although I doubt you will want to run those pads. They are for people who don't care about dust, noise, or rotors, but they do stop.................yesterday.
