Yeah, if it was a 72-73 T, or any year E or S, I would say put the money into making the MFI right. But your engine was originally carb'ed, if my memory is correct.

When I built my 2.7RS-spec engine, I had the throttle bodies, stacks and linkage reconditioned. I also had my injection pump modified with the correct 2.7RS space cam. Pricey, but compared to my original 2.4E engine, it was a screamer.

If the components are in good order, it's not all that hard to setup/adjust MFI. Porsche has a real good manual for this.

Tuning the 944 Turbo was a LOT different than tuning the 928.

The 944 used basic tunes within the stock parameters. Things like MAF, injectors, etc, voltages had to be tuned using the fuel pressure amount to make the DME think everything was running within the stock voltages. Example: if your fuel pressure was too high, you would need to turn the voltage from the maf down too far to get it lean enough and the DME would never think you were under load and not advance the spark. But you also didn't want the pressure too low and max out the MAF output to get enough fuel. You were basically trying to tune the maps by tuning the voltages that they got.

The difference in the 928 is the DME is replaced with a programmable module that you can change the maps themselves.

It took me 6 or 8 months to figure out how to get those Webers spot on.

The combination of the carbs, the throttle linkage, and the ignition, all inclusive, was a challenge........after fooling with it for so long, suddenly it was there. The non-radical cams ( Solex) were a bonus and perfect for AX. B Anderson's combo of jets & whatnot was spot on.

I've had no success trying to tune a Weber carbed engine via the internet

Jim, the original was carbed so that may be the plan. I will know more when he gets a chance to look at the car in person and sees what is and is not missing to run MFI.

Well, today is the day that I have now driven my El Camino 300,000 miles.

It only had 41,901 when I bought it and now it is "almost broken in" with 341,901 miles.

It is a better vehicle now that it was back when new. The OEM cooling system was just inadequate. The 2 core radiator was just not enough to keep it cool. The engine would get HOT but I have no idea how hot until I replaced the idiot lights with real OEM style gages. I put in a 3 core high quality radiator and now it stays cool.

The OEM transmission was the POS metric 200 3 speed with lockup. It puked at 70K miles. Now it has a built 2004R with lockup so it is a 4 speed with lockup. The rear end was a peg leg. That is now a limited slip differential. The OEM carb was worthless and that was replaced with throttle body injection. The 305 original went 300K miles with no real issues. The new GM crate engine 350 in it now is much better.

It had a AM-FM crummy radio that is now a MP3 playing with Bluetooth connectivity. The rear view mirror is an automatic dimming mirror with built in compass and outside temperature with three button remote for the garage doors.

There is not a part on the car that I have not improved in some way. Now I am working towards 400K miles!

Congrats. Cheaper than car payments when you have them go that many miles. We have only driven ours 150K of the 200K. Sounds like the alternator is the only recurring issue.

Yea, alternators seem to last a year or so. It is a easy 20 minute job to swap them. I have one Autozone alternator that I use until it craps out, I sawp to my backup, and get the Autozone unit replaced for free. It is one of the major reasons I put in all gauges, for the volt gauge, and the temperature gauge and the tachometer.

I have not made a car payment in this century, heck not even in this millennium!

I have a "spare" core for a waterpump, starter and one for the air conditioning compressor.

None of those are too bad to replace on a SBC. The starter is easy in the truck as I don't even have to jack it up. The Cobra is a pain in the butt if you don't put it on stands.

The starter weighs about 400 pounds when trying to hold it up into place.

They are fairly easy to replace but the engine starts is a second. The starter does not get a lot of use.

Last starter I replaced was in the Rover. Because of weird freaking wiring the darn thing burned itself up. Had to take it to a rover shop and they did it correctly and no more problems kinda. It barely made enough juice for itself. With the biggest I could get for it, still sucked. If I got caught out in the cold at night with heater, window defrosters, heated seats and lights it would slowly run the battery down and die. Was told that was normal and there were guides on-line to make an even bigger one off of something else work.

The spa closest to my house charges $75 for 30 minutes and doesn't even do happy endings.

There is a chiropractic clinic even closer that does adjustments, chair massage, and lay on one of those roller tables while they do acupuncture. Takes about an hour and they only charge $30.

Bonecracker i use only spent about 20 minutes doing an adjustment and only changed $25. He used and activator instead of putting your body in all kinds of positions and stretching and tugging and pulling.
