Good Morning and TGIF!

Phew I got the day's work done at 2:25 AM. I was working on it up until 10:30 last night and my computer had to work convert electricity into heat and magic numbers until sometime this morning. I was in bed so I did not care, I was just a slave driver.

Our client gets all pouty and whines if I don't get the data finished early. Now I can go back to playing paper pusher and catch up on prodding customers to decide what they want to have done.

Our motto: Like a broke horny whore on a Friday night, ready for anything, bring it on!

Happy Friday off work!

Would still be enjoying the blissful unconsciousness of sleeping in late, BUT...
Had a conference call that I had to attend at 8:30 even though I showed everyone yesterday the problem was not email.

At least didn't have to drive to campus for a 30 minute meeting.

Now am free to spend time on side jobs. Am sure Glen likes hearing that!

Archiving off IT guy's PST email file that was relieved of his responsibilities after the drug test. His emails are 70GB of just over 60,000 messages!

That is a big mailbox.

Anyone want some Adtran 24 and 48 port switches? They are OK for most stuff, but don't have the fine VLAN management that I need. Went to all new Aruba a while back and Emily put all these back to factory defaults. I think we have 15 or so total. Not too many 48 port.

Are they gigabit? I could use a spare 24 port. I just have a full 8 port now. How much do you want for em? Are they the type that can be just a switch. Plug and play type?

We may need to expand to use the wires we have.

They have 2 or 4 Gb ports depending on which one. but unfortunately the rest of the ports are 100Mb.

When they were on the phones it was all we needed. The phones were 100Mb with a pass through.

They are managed switches unlike the cheap ones you get at big box stores which share that Gb backbone with all the other ports. The 48 port were over $1k each when new.

Yea, I will pass on those switches. I can get a pretty cheap gigabit switch. We don't use any type of server setup. Everything is 100% peer to peer and all Windows 10 Pro. The real pain is every update seals back up the sharing we get to work. I so wish there was a way to tell Win 10 to share a folder 100% open, any other computer gets total access. I have a network of one person and three computers. I don't want to do passwords, or permissions. Let it all hang out.

No thanks on the switches. Need my Gig speed for files transfer, ie backup.

Still trying to copy that huge PST file. My virtual PC was joining the domain and someone had set the profiles to go to a locked screen saver after 15 minutes of inactivity. Evidently a the program used to download PSTs from 365 actively using the network port and processor not only does not count as activity, it locks up everything except file explorer when you log back in from the display sleep. Was only getting 10gb of the 70GB file. Got that fixed by removing my Virtual PC from the domain.

Then it stopped at 15GB, my virtual PC does not have enough hard drive allocated to download the PST, Argh. Assigned more disk to the virutal machine and couldn't extend the boot drive. Had to go download a program to change the partitioning on the drive to take advantage of the unallocated drive space in Win10. So now have a 300GB drive instead of 60GB.

PST download is now up to 20GB downloaded with only 50GB to go. Estimates 2 hours and 20 minutes to go.

It's all Microsoft's fault for automatically increasing mailstore sizes allowing 100GB in Office365. Combined with People and Culture (HR) for making us keep archives of former employees computer files for 7 years. Our company is NOT even legally liable for it.

I stripped down the dash on the Z. It’s just a bare metal frame now. I cleaned up the instruments. I’ve had to due a little bit of rust removal/treatment on the frame and a few of the instruments. My guess is that the Z was frequently parked outside with the drivers window down. Being near the SF Bay all its life, it probably was exposed to salt in the air, leading to the corrosion I’m seeing (mostly on drivers side of the dash). Of well. Nothing’s easy.

I've seen some pretty sharp leather work in the 928 world. There are a couple of really exceptional leather shoppes.

Then again a local guy took his 944 Turbo to a local tapicero (automotive upholstery specialist) and they did a great job really cheap.

Are you going to do the upholstery work yourself?

My second car was a 71 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus. Pretty much a hot rod. It had a 383 with 2 2bbl carbs, some kind of fancy intake, dual exhausts, that slap stick transmission, and completely adjustable suspension. I didn't find out about the adjustable suspension until it was long gone. The suspension was to adjust for the track, hence the Sebring Plus name.

When I had the car the suspension was set up for drag racing. You could floor it from a stop and instead of spinning the tires the rear would lower, loading up the suspension, then it would start rising and just go. And that was with the stock tires. That wasn't because it didn't have power either. On several occasions flooring it from a stop it broke the motor mounts. That was with the biggest mounts available and chained down as well.

The local garage I took it to was 2 brothers. Their last name was Sebring as was their garage, Sebring Automotive. They were into street racing Mopars. They really liked my car both because it was quick and because of their name and the name on the car. They offered to buy and/or trade for it several times.

One time they offered to trade me for a car they completely rebuilt. It had been completely stripped down and repainted. It was all finished except for the upholstery. It was a small two seater. Iit looked great, but there were a couple of things that stopped me. First was the interior was completely bare. Second was the cams made the motor sound like something was wrong to me. Thought it was some kind of VW kit car. Turned out is was an actual Ford GT40. At that time I didn't know what a GT40 was or even looked like. Probably why I thought it was a VW kit car. I was 20. can't imagine what insurance would have cost.

We went to breakfast with the local PCA region. Good company and good meal.

I got home and started the fuel line replacement. Golly what fun. I have all the gas drained out. One reason I waited was the 911 was above 3/4 of a tank and the Elky was full. I finally used up enough gas in the Elky to have a place to put all that gas.

Through great skill and planning I picked a day that the high temp was 72 and a slight drizzle with 98% humidity. Zero chance of a static spark. Everything is ready in the front, now I just need to prop up the transmission and remove the cross brace for the transmission. Then I can start the fuel line swap.

It will be a total blast, no bad choice of word, it will be FUN. Almost as much fun as mowing the yard on a 100+ degree day with no beer or water!

Jim, you missed a really fun packed day. Way better than having one’s fingernails ripped out or setting you hair on fire.

I can now say fer sure, I am more than 50% done. Whooo hoooo.

The pressure or feed line has been snaked through the tunnel, and I just need to connect it. I tried to screw it into the engine compartment steel lines for 30 minutes and gave up. My hand and arms could not take it anymore. I lowered it to the ground for the night.

(All) I have left to do is connect that feed line back in the transmission area, then pull the return line through. Then connect it, and put the seat back in, put the center console back, and put the other myriad parts back together. Another couple of days should do it. Ack.

Saturday was a labor day at home. Got more work done on the tractor deck so it mows better and cleaned everything out so the built up grass would stop throwing the belt. Then we watched Black Panther. It was an OK movie but pretty generic in plot and action. Glad we didn't see it in theaters.

Sunday my wife and I went to a murder mystery dinner party and ballroom dance through the place we get our dance lessons from. The private detective was murdered and my wife was the only one that knew who did it. The security guy was trying to talk her out of it but in the end she was pretty convinced and wouldn't back down. They gave her a prize for figuring it out and the prize was a Sherlock Holmes hat, pipe and magnifying glass.

Had it not been for that I would have been down to help you Glen. Honest.

Sunday was fun. Even the movie wasn't that fun. Oh well, we are ready for Infinity Wars now though.
