I spent several hours in the garage today tinkering on the 911. Just tweaking things to be better. I adjusted the clutch, and checked things under the car. Planning on going to Eureka Springs for the fall foliage soon.

Missing the big 928 GTG this weekend in Marble Falls TX. The tour drive yesterday stopped for lunch at the original Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood,TX. Today is the car show cook out in a local park.

There is a prize drawing during the cookout. Because everyone registers the organizers make sure everyone wins something. Might not win the big prize, but always get something. One year I did draw the big prize, a set of Koni red adj shocks.

Your 928 is in the garage. Ya shoulda gone. The Porsche Palooza event starts next week. Last year one guy had a 918 and the 911 GT3s, GT2s are not uncommon. Tons of Caymans and Boxsters and a few old air cooled antiques. I had more compliments than any other event last year. It is all guys (and a few girls) that like to drive on curvy roads. Not just show off their fancy clothes, watches and jewelry.

Wish I could. Have to plan and prepare just to go out for lunch or to get groceries.

The last trip I took was to Tulsa to visit my brother in the hospital and back the same evening. Had all day to prepare. Was glad I took a change of clothes.

That MRSA infection really messed me up.
But hey, the docs say I should be happy I'm still alive.

Spent saturday at my sister's helping my nephew swap out his broken swaybar links, lower ball joints and tie rod ends on his mid 2000s Grand Prix. The lower ball joints are riveted in with huge steel rivets that need to be drilled out. What fun.

That sounds like the the ball joints for the El Camino front A-arms, top and bottom. The factory puts in rivets to hold them in place. It is just a lot of drilling to remove them. They get replaced with high grade bolts and nuts. The biggest challenge is the GIANT coil spring. It is very terrifying compressing that spring to get it out, and back in. The rear springs are a cinch. Just remove the shocks from the bottom connection and the trailing arms drop down far enough to just reach in and take out the spring, no compression at all.

For the 911 there are no coil springs at all for the suspension. The only spring that is darn near impossible to compress is the spring for the flag mirror. One needs the hand strength of Terminator or a gorilla to compress it.

His had struts up front so no need to compress any springs. I think it is a GM thing to make it difficult to replace them. Would have almost been better to replace the lower a-arm and bushings at the same time. Actually, it would be better to have him buy a new car. The A/C system needs replaced, the window regulators have been replaced several times over, the headlights have been replaced twice.

Yea, I though about just buying entire A-arms with ball joints installed. But then the upgrade fever starts. For "just a little more" I can get tubular A-arms, and of course the premium model is just a bit more, and than it would be cool to get new hubs and bigger brakes and.....

In the end, I cheated big time. I took it to a local shop I trust to do the A-Arms and a new alignment.

One of the the factory front end parts that wore out ages ago was the steering arm. The factory unit had no grease zerk, as it was a "lifetime" lube. Yea, lifetime of 60,000 miles. The replacement has been on there ever since and it gets lubed regularly. It is still in prefect shape after 300K miles.

GTS has all coils with ride height adjustification so are part of the dampers. Mine also has external rebound adjustment.

The worst is those little freakin springs that have the little ball bearings they load in the seat switches. Only tried to repair them a couple of times before I just started getting new switches..

Yep, I know them well. My 911 has the exact switch. It even has a 928 part number. I just replace them, and they don't last that long. I tried to clean them, and that might help for a week. Just swap em out.
