The model T had specifications for the crates and boxes materials were delivered in. Ford used those crates to make body parts and trim llke the floor boards on the model T.

We are off to eat breakfast with the PCA club. Tomorrow is the autocross. I am going to skip running in the autocross. With the start of a 5,000 mile road trip 4 days later, I will play it safe. In several hundred autocrosses I have never hurt my car, but I just am playing it safe. And my tires only have 50 miles on them.

Phew. Breakfast was great. We got home and I worked on my El Camino condenser fan I added 4 years ago. I noticed the other day it was not working. Dig through all the connections and of course the last connection left to check was the culprit. Had I started at that end, it would have been first. The fan works again

Then the bosses wife insisted I check the central vacuum system. It was shutting off after 15 minutes. Took it all apart, and cleaned up some old deteriorated foam. It all works again and all it needs is a long test, but my hand does not fit the handle of the vacuum.
Then she made me work on the antique floor lamp. It uses a bulb with the large “mogul” base. The old build is a 100-150-300 three way, and makes a great room heater in 300 mode. So I had to get a modern LED corn cob looking bulb to work. It is even brighter, and should be a lot cooler. Her mom is coming down for the week I am gone, and they have some sewing to do. The bright bulb helps a lot.

This afternoon the region has a new member party and swim party. We will not be swimming, but the pizza is gonna be eaten.

The ceiling fan was obviously an afterthought. Some knob cut a hole in the tin roof to install the noggin to fit the fan. There was also evidence of the roof leaking at the patch. Now I need to fix that patch as well. I have secured the noggin to the joists and put in a gyprock patch. Base coat of plaster repair done and I’ll wait a day before top coating.

When I was 12 Dad installed a lot of ceiling fans on Satirdays.. Ceiling fans were a new thing back then, and mostly for people from his day job and their friends. I got to be his attic crawler to pull the romex wiring. Usually tacked a 2x4 across the joists to hang the fan from.

Never had or added a ceiling fan in our own house though.

Current house had one in the middle of the living room. It was silly small, it only had an 18in diameter fan. Replaced it with a normal sized one that matches the decor much better. Have only used it when the A/C went out.

Added a ceiling fan to the bedroom my brother with MS used. He used it all the time. His was the only room on the west side of the house amd would be 5°F warmer than the rest of the house. Ended up putting a window A/C unit in his room.

Also added a ceiling fan to the garage so a little space heater would warm the whole garage in winter to keep temps above freezing.

Richard is right on target with the 2x4 support tied to the ceiling joists. With a junction box nailed to the 2x4 and just poking through the ceiling, flush with the ceiling.



We don’t have any ceiling fans in our house. Most days we have enough sea breeze to keep the house pleasant. When we don’t, usually in September, we’ll run the A/C when we’re uncomfortable.

The hard part was holding the fan up while Dad did the wire nuts before hanging it. On those there wasn't enough room to wire while hanging. That fan got really heavy.

Our house was built with ceiling fans. We have 6 in the house and two on the back-porch. I added two in my garage work area. The 6 in the house all were nice quality quiet fans and light kits. The Mrs did not care for the look of them, so he bought replacements and I “got” to replace them. That is where one of the garage fans came from. They are great in the summer to blow on our bed, and we can turn the AC up and be comfortable.

We have ceiling fans in all the bedrooms, living rooms, dining room and office. They compliment the AC all year round. I’m replacing all but the one in the office with modern remote controlled 3 blade 52” dc motor fans with led lights. Much nicer than the old 70/80 styled noisy analog ones.

All this talk if ceiling fans reminds me that I really need to put in two. For whatever reason in our house, the builder cheaped out and didn’t put overhead lighting at alll in 3 of the bedrooms. Just put an outlet in that is switched. For one of them its not a big deal, but for the other two we’d really like fans. I’ll have to get in the attic and do the setup Richard demonstrated for those, which I’m nt thrilled about.

Yard work is done...yay! A bit less than 45 minutes of moving and edging the grass, and pruning the roses. Back to tinkering in the garage!

That’s no kidding. Had to go up there to check the AC the other day. Not somewhere you want to be for long at all.

The loose insulation made those attics much hotter than they were. And I was used to also wearing a long sleeved shirt and gloves in the hot part of the summer to pick my okra patch. Both were sweaty and itchy.

Back at my first house the bathroom had no ventilation. It was always damp in the there, and in the summer dumping a ton of moisture into the house for the AC system to deal with was just nuts. So one August it was 100 degree day and I decided I HAD to have a bathroom ventilation to suck the moisture out. I was in my late 20s and went up into the attic to find the hole I poked in the ceiling from the bathroom. Cordless drills were a dream, and I did not own enough extension cords to get to the back part of the house. I had to drill a hole in one attic support to get a wire over to the vent area. So I used my old brace, and drilled it with Glen power. By the time I got the wiring done and connected I was soaking wet from sweat. I went down the attic into the garage and it felt nice and cool at only 100 degrees. I took a cold shower and the vent did great getting the moisture out.

Good Morning and a start to another fine week.

With my neuopathy thing my attic climbing days are over.
Fel through the roof once back in the day. Dad had put some boards across rafters to walk on. However this one board had a big knot in it and broke. Luckily I landed sitting in the lazy boy.

After patching the hole repainted the ceiling in the whole house so you couldn/t possibly tell there had been a hole in the livingroom. Glad that didn't happen in this house. It's got textured ceilings.

Ever notice on those DIY remodel shows when they remove the texture from walls and ceilings to make them "look better" even on the show the room gets louder and more echoy?

I was in my attic a LOT the first week or so that we had possession. We did not own a normal vacuum cleaner, and still don't. We had a central vacuum system at the old house, and I "got" to install one here. I spent a lot of time in the attic doing the vacuum system. After 21 years it still works great. The next year I "got" to install the sprinkler system in the yard. That made the vacuum system look really easy. It took me almost 6 weeks to get the sprinkler system all installed. That was a royal pain in the butt. In case anyone is interested, I only charge $50,000 for sprinkler system consultation and installation on under one acre lots, and $20,000 for central vacuum systems in 2,000 square feet maximum single story houses. So far no one has wanted to pay my fee, so I am safe.
