I read the interview with Ian Anderson included with the 40th anniversary Aqualung CD. I found it interesting. I like them. Sometimes I am more in the mood that others.

Had an interesting run-in with a couple of gang members (Crips). Read on FB.

We had some huge storms rip through here last night, huge as in lots of power outages people killed by falling trees and such. I just went outside to survey the damage and I lost a huge branch from a tree. It is laying parallel to my Mercedes in the driveway. That was close.

I really don't try for this.
It's not the first time something like this has happened. I do know a bit on how to keep the "encounter", "pleasant".It was a very uncomfortable moment in time. The dude that just got out of prison was proud to let me know how he's been in the system since Juvi. Just played it cool.

Always play it cool with everybody until they give you a reason not to.

Are you trying to replace jello wrestling with chicken enchilada wrestling?

Just went to check on dads place since he is out of town and holy crap it looks like a bomb went off around here. They must have been some bad storms. I slept through them

Today I rode from Cal Poly to Prefumo Canyon, then See Canyon and turned around and came back the way I came. According to a bike map I looked at, that is about 23.8 miles and 2,500 feet of total climbing the way I went. I think I may have found a route comparable with Latigo Canyon but I still like the Santa Monica Mountains best.
See Canyon is a nice descent, as is Prefumo, but I prefer the safety of two-lane roads. They are much, much steeper than the roads in the SMMs but not as high/long. I prefer to climb further at a faster speed so the Malibu Canyons suit me more. See Canyon has some shade, though, which is very nice in the summer. And the trees and undergrowth are different. Some conifers and more ferns to go with the oaks. Going downhill with the road falling away from you (curvature blocking the view of what is ahead -- can be a turn!) makes for an exciting descent. I would have felt safer with a bit higher specification bike under me, but I made it. Took a while, though. About 3 hours from when I left my room to when I got back.

Oh, yeah. This bike needs a new seat. Not just because the cover is falling apart and it is showing the foam all over. It either needs to be shorter or be angled down in front. It tends to make -- um -- that area rather sore as it is now...
On the other hand, the full suspension is nice for the dirt, gravel, and rough pavement that make up the roads here. At least for climbing and flats. On the steep downhills it gets kind of sketchy wallowing around like that. But that Cadillac ride is nice for pedeling long distances.

I was passing a lot of people and I never got passed, so I guess I made good time. I should have slowed down when I passed that group of girls but it was in the beginning of the ride and to get around them I had to use a bit of the car lane. They looked roughly my age. On road bikes. But hey, I take my rides rather seriously.
On the way back I saw this idiot talking to his significant other, riding beside each other. She was in the bike lane, he was all the way in the car lane (2 lane road). The car slowed and honked when he went by and the cyclist gave him the finger. I came up going like 10 mph faster than him and whipped around him and cut right back into the bike lane in front of him and was gone. I had Jethro Tull playing a good riff at that point so I was in a mood to sprint.I wonder how those people feel being passed by an ancient mountainbike ridden by a kid in shorts and a T-shirt, no clip pedals, and wearing a backpack full of water bottles and an air pump sticking out (don't want to spend on a frame-mount one)?
