Your thoughts on magna cut steel? I've read about it, made me curious. Think I'll visit the Buck site, see if they offer a stockman or a cadet (medium stockman) in magna cut steel. Cool to see that Buck has followed Case in offering different handle scales materials. (edit) Just checked..evidently nothing custom for the slip joint folks.

That's a nice looking knife @ramonesfreak. I was looking at the GW site the other day and there was a very well worn and broken blade 110 on it. I thought about bidding on it and then sending it to Buck to have them put it thru their 'Boot camp', just to see what they would have done to it. I think most Buck 110's are worth saving, they're a good knife IMO.

My first knife with magna cut so I cant say...since I had the choice to pick which steel and I have knives with the other steel choices, I took a chance.

The test that I use to decide if I like a steel on a knife I use a lot is whether or not it responds to stropping. If it does not, it will sit in the drawer. From what I read, prior to making the decision, is that it does in fact respond well to stropping. We shall see.

I think its something like $5 to have a new blade...or they may do it for free.

I think any 110 is worth saving. I love them.

btw, I think they call it their spa treatment but I am not sure that includes the new blade. I would ask about the new blade AND the spa treatment or boot camp whatever they call it. Have em look it over and fix any issues. Most likely it will cost you more in postage

yea I looked too. They do have a stockman but its 420HC - which I really like alot. Very sharp and very easy to sharpen but yea, no magna cut.

I wish they made a custom one with a pocket clip, as that is personal requirement for everyday carry.

My current daily is an MKT auto that I really like, have been using it for a number of years. I have countless Benchmades as well and do switch it up.

This one was pretty rough as you can see above.
I thought it'd be interesting to see how nice it would come back from them after they put it thru the wringer so to speak. I've read elsewhere that they come back looking like new.

^^^ that’s a two dot made between 1974 and 1980. Unfortunately I do not think the blade once replaced will have the original steel but still would be cool to fix it up give it a new life. Ide guess they will replace it with a 420HC steel blade

16 minutes, and probably only interesting to those of us who, like me, prefer the old "grandad" pocket knife style. I have both of these...both bought decades ago. I settled on the Case. Why? Because I liked it's no longer available India Stag scales (handle material), and as this guy points out, just feels good in the hand. (edit) On youtube, I've seen nothing but good about magna cut steel.

I like case knives. I have 4 including an early 80s shark tooth which was Case’s version of the 110 new in original box that I use to open the mail. It’s heavy like a 110 so it will get used around the house. I have a mid 70s 2 blade copperhead I bought unused and have used it quite a bit. I’ve read this was a favorite of Vietnam Vets but not sure if that’s true. It’s a nail biter though, hard to open. I have a new congress and a peanut. Both have blade wobble and I haven’t gotten around to fixing that yet. One of the biggest issues I have with new Case knives is the badges are blurry. Can’t even read the Case logo. This pisses me right off.

I have a few GEC stockman patterns but no Case. I would like a vintage one eventually

Here’s my GEC calf roper medium stockmans. Both have seen action :-). Unfortunately the ebony one on the left had a weak spring out of the box. Should have sent it back. The sheep’s foot has very little snap. The jigged bone one I like much better (I love jig bone and a long nail nick) and just noticed rust so I’m glad I looked at it…..1095 steel can be a PIA even when keeping them oiled and I save all desiccant packs that come in stuff in the mail and toss em in my knife-only tool box

I've been seeing videos complaining about variations in quality of recent Case knives...so I'd suggest not buying online...one year easy to ID with Case is 1989..tangs are stamped to denote their 100th anniversary.

(edit) Finally watched the video...one of Tony's knives today? Priceless! The knife equal to a Balabushka cue...

(another edit) Finally did a search on Great Eastern...I'd say the Rolex of traditional knives. Thanks for the education.

custom shop 110 came today.
magnacut, elk, finger grooves, nickel
actually got it a few weeks ago. it had a very noticeable with your finger nail line going vertically on both sides of the blade. bummer. sent it back the same day. got it back today. they didnt send me tracking info so it was a surprise. took about 3 weeks to get back. im happy with it now. its a beast. solid. no play. perfectly centered blade. sharp. more than any of my knives, this one feels like i will grab it for most everything around the house. its a pleasure to hold. great food prep knife i think

Here's an old Smith&Wesson pocket knife I've had for years. The wide blade is hollow ground and holds an edge well. It sits in a drawer
