Tried the viral "Big Mac Taco" last night. Hybrid Big Mac/smash burger in the form of a taco. Seriously good!

America's Test Kitchen old fashioned fried chicken last night. I have to admit it was better than I thought it would me. The simple batter worked vs. an overly complex one. Both have their place, nice change of pace. Strongly recommend everyone getting a proper fryolater. This was an exceedingly easy and super tasty dinner. Probably going to do two more thighs and roll them around in a gochujang sauce and have with ramen.

Made enough fried rice to freeze. Saw a video recommending 2/3 white rice and 1/3 jasmine and it worked okay, despite me overcooking it into mush.
Had to put it in the oven for a bit to dry out. Sausage bits, shrimp, egg, white and green onion, peas, garlic and marinated ginger, black sesame oil, oyster sauce/hosin/tamari to finish. Kikkoman is pretty good but it contains wheat. Tamari is real fermented soy sauce. The good stuff. https://www.webmd.com/diet/health-benefits-nattokinase When soybeans go through fermentation, the bacteria used activates nattokinase and gives the food its cheese-like flavor and a range of scientifically-backed health benefits. Lower Heart Disease Risk Studies show that nattokinase dissolves blood clots — which helps maintain good blood vessel structure, improves blood flow, and lowers the risk of heart disease.

Perhaps I can get Lois to participate here. She, and not I, would be needed to explain the preparation ingredients and processes. She is a mighty awesome cook who creates great meals every single day. Here is the latest. Corn, mixed cooked vegetables, mixed salad with homemade dressing, lamb chops and an Italian red. Veggies came mostly from our garden. A parade of fresh garden vegetables dance across our table this time of year. I am spoiled.

Here is something Lois bakes on Sundays. For breakfasts. I think she calls it a "frittata." I should really open a jar of homemade salsa.

Here in Metropolis we eat from the garden when we can, and what we don't grow we get from local farms.
Except for the lamb chops from Costco. Just get them up to room temperature, salt and pepper, and cook for 12 minutes or so. The corn came from a local farm-nothing to do there but heat some water. The zucchini is sliced into coins and fried in a hot pan till blistered. Be generous with the oil. Remove the zucchini and add garlic and halved Sungold tomatoes and cook for another minute or two. Parmesan is nice with this, but not necessary; fresh basil is good too. The salad is frisee, grown from seeds, inspired by France, with a pear and some toasted walnuts, and a Roquefort (purchased from the local hippie co-op) viniagrette. Just a regular dinner at our house. |

Pork chop with spicy coconut lime sauce. With some pork broth and dashi, this would make a phenomenal ramen. Sauce was simple, vibrant and clean, would have also been perfect with halibut and swordfish, topped with bonito flakes. Lot of sauce on the plate because it was as good as soup as it was a sauce. Happy to be cooking again.

Here’s my dinner. Bonus that it’s super easy for the two old ladies in my neighborhood to eat. No teeth needed.
Braised tomato egg drop. And the togo version for the old folks. ![]() ![]() |

i roasted a duck the other day, thighs were awesome but not so picturesque. Carved a breast off for dinner tonight, made a quick cherry sauce, duck skin cracklins, honey-birdseye whipped cream and truffle fries. The sweet and spicy whipped cream was great.

Putting this at the top of the OT page since Lois Lane does not seem to have search capabilities. @Seahawk?
