great bang for a buck
My sons lean towards the GT convertibles. The 4.6 and 5.0 move pretty well especially with some suspension upgrades. Helps to have someone (me) who is willing to replace window motors, stereos, odometer gears, and a gazillion other things.
I think they're going to hold on to them for some time. They've heard me cry about the '55 Chevys I let go when I was kid.

Vinny,
I hear you, that is one great looking car. I have always been a fan of the dual stripes on muscle cars.

If the VIN matches those GT350H stripes? Yeah...

My favorite was the California Special.
Take a stock 68 moostang, drop in a 195 hp engine, glue on a few poorly-fitting plastic body parts, stick on some tail lights from a thunderbird because you don't have enough imagination to do anything else and voila, a very special limited edition car ![]() (a few were built with 390s and a couple with 428's, but almost all had the 2 bbl lopo 289) ![]() ![]() Last edited by sammyg2; 05-01-2011 at 10:13 AM.. |

How can we forget the California special? The mustang equivalent of the 914-1.8...
The guy down the road is into old Mustangs...restores them. For himself, a Boss 302. For his wife? She bought a "California special"...He just shook his head on that one...

I had it for about 12 years, did a bunch of work on it, and then life and Porsches got in the way, and I put it in storage temporarily, but it never came back out. At this point in time, I wanted the money more than the car, so adios Mustang. A few more pics. You can see one of the reasons for selling parked in front of the upper bank of garages. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'd still love to have it.
A "clone" can look and drive just as well as the "real thing", the only difference is in the resale value. If you plan to keep a car forever, that matters not in the slightest. By the way, Racerbud says hi guys.

Head on down the Highway in an old Mustang at 70 Mph and try and stop the thing before you run into something (wt front wheel discs btw)...phew that puts the fear of Gawd in ya...
Now do that with an old 911...it stops nice an quick...and it handles well to.... Thats why I went 4 wheel discs on my Mach...also why I went Global West Comp suspension..Now I have a 428 SCJ that handles and stops.

Of course they cost about a gillion $$$$$ now, but they were true all around performers in their day- and cheaper than a 911. |

Nothing wrong with clones, as long as they are honestly presented as such. Actually, with proper hot rodding & modernizing, something you shouldn't do to an "original", clones can be BETTER drivers than the real thing.

I actually can't stand mustangs. I was always a GM guy.
Back in the mid 90s I had a 1979 3.8 Turbo Pontiac Le Mans (Like a malibu but with a little more exterior flare and a much sportier dash). The motor was a tuned carburated turbo (breathing through an off-road racing exhaust) that in later versions in Buick Grand Nationals would become legendary. It probably put about 250hp to the wheels. The trans was a worked up TH350 with a 3000rpm stall speed and the rear was a 3.73 10 bolt limited slip. I would launch at the max 10psi boost and it was like it was fired out of a cannon. It had upgraded sway bars, 1" lowered coils, bigger late model Monte SS disc brakes and coil over Monroe GP gas charged shocks with 1985 Monte SS rims and low profile Goodyears. I would have loved to race that on a road course against some 911s or anything else. It was an absolute beast back in the day. Don't think i ever lost a race in it. Sadly, one night it developed a little fuel leak, sprayed fuel on the exhaust turbine housing of the turbo, and that was that... It burned to the ground right before my eyes. ![]() Any way, point is....i liked GMs. Also had a badass Buick T-Type turbo, and a 78 El Camino with a 1973 Vette LT1 and Borg Warner T10 4 speed at different times too. Loved my GM hot rods. ![]() Mustangs were my main opponents on Friday and Saturday nights. Last edited by m21sniper; 05-01-2011 at 03:13 PM.. |

Ahhh, how politics can change opinions. I too was an old GM guy. My first ever new car was a '65 G.T.O.
But today? I'd never buy a new car from a company that became a willing ward of the state...

Started driving on a 65' coupe with a 289. Friend showed me how to do a brake torque and create some smoke. The trans. was first rate. Ran it dry many times and never burned it up. First car I could get to 100 MPH! I believe the Mustang is the only car that Ford sold that did not need a rebate to sell!
