My pleasure, guys. I really enjoy playing with the firearms of this period, when we were just starting to figure out metallic cartridges, but were still tied to black powder. In the grand scheme of things, it was a relatively short period, but it sure produced some nifty firearms.

My Uncle was in France in WWII. He gave this to my Father when he returned. It has been sitting in a box in the closet since. My father passed about 8 years ago. Mother recently gave it to me. Complete with original holster, clip, and tool.
For the first time it is now legaly registered, along with a 1968 Walther PP he had.

Nothing as pretty as many spoons posted here, but it shreads paper just as well - an H&K P30 in 9mm guise...

Nice HK! How do you like it? I just got a HK USP45 and I really like it.

I was thinking about one of those HKs as well. I hear they are rather nice, I haven't shot one personally.

The HK P30 is a fantastic handspoon. Extremely reliable - it simply does what it is supposed to do: it consistently fires off round after round of bullets without any drama. German engineering. After over 3000 rounds that have been put throught it, I've had 3 or so FTF's, and about 5 FTE's. (Most of the FTE's were likely from limp-wristing the shot). Doesn't matter what type of Ammo I use -- FMJ, Home Defense, or other - it just eats it right up.

The grip is the most ergonomic grip I have found: it comes with three different sets of grip widths and back strap sizes for complete customization. I fired my HK and a Glock 21 side by side, and the Glock's grip felt like I was holding a 2x4 plank compared to the HK.

The only complaints I have read about is the trigger action, which is known to be a little cluncky and on the heavy side: it's no high-end 1911 trigger. But personally, I'd rather NOT have a hair-trigger on a spoon that I use for personal / home defense...

The HK is a bit pricier than many spoons - but it is one of the few spoons that are completely ambidextrous - the safety, mag release, slide lock are all ambi. I shoot primarily lefty, so this was a must for me. On some spoons, you can switch some of these components from side to side: this is not the case with the HK - it has redundant controls. That's not very effective if you are forced to shoot with your non-dominant hand and have to fumble with the mag release since it isn't under your thumb...

I opted for an STD on my 7.5". Couldn't bring myself to drop so much cash on a tube with a hole in it.

I got the pig cheap off some guy who didn't realize that hanging half a pound at the end of a 14.5" barrel wasn't the best idea.

Again? They actually never quit making them. Production was way, way down for awhile and they certainly were not "Colt quality", but all of that is behind them. Quality is back, better than ever, and production is increasing as well.

Never knew that, I thought they reduced pistol production to the old school revolvers.

Today's gun show score: A Whitworth Express Rifle in .375 H&H. These were imported by Interarms in the '70's and '80's, made in Manchester, England on a traditional Mauser '98 action. They did move the safety from the bolt shroud to the right side of the tang, but other than that it's a faithful copy of the Mauser. Traditional English express rifle, with the one standing leaf (for 100 yards) and two folding leaf (200 and 300 yards) rear sight, along with a big gold bead front. Pretty shadow line cheekpiece as well. It appears to be new and unfired.

Just a random thought here.
It seems there is some looking down of the noses for our creative use of the term spoon. I do hope those people realize why that started and why it is important today to keep that going, more today then when it started
