Nostatic:
You are a great guy to put up with this sort of blather from the rabble. But ya know, that toilet seat is not going to warm up for you by its own...it would be great to share some pain by discussing your car's problems. In this respect I would counsel that you throw your wallet in the air in a parking lot full of Pcars and buy the one it lands on. Very scientific you know! All in good fun! John

Calling Dr. Phil...
I haven't been around here too long, and I don't have a degree in psychology, but this is an interesting situation--how a fear of commitment affects the ability to fulfill one's desires. I took the time to read through 100+ of Nostatic's posts and he would make an interesting subject for the upcoming Dr. Phil book (all in fun here, nostatic--hell, I'll probably take a ribbing for even knowing that Dr. Phil is writing a new book).

930Chas, my hats off to your sarcasm Although I must say, there is truth in what Nostatic says; California get driven! When I was 911 shopping I thought I would be going to Cali for sure. But even with emailed pict's of "low milage" CA cars I could tell these cars were DRIVEN. . . .and odometer roll-back is just a popular past time there. On the other hand, if you find one from an region where there is snow on the ground half the year it makes it a bit easier to believe the milage on a 20y/o car.

Heard it thru the grapevine....
John...I suppose the fact that my mom was born in Naples, Italy and my grandparents spoke NO English would immediately eliminate the insinuation of xenophobia...and as far as the NY stuff..well it's the "cross-town" rivalry.
Milage speculation on the SC: "I know the car has 40,000 original miles...". |

I can sympathize with nostatic. I was brought up (read: trained, programmed, etc) to value and preserve money at all cost (no pun intended). Even though I've been fortunate enough to have had some financial success, I still struggle with having so much money tied up in a toy sitting in the garage.
I was "between Porsches" for a few years and searched for a long time to find my current 911, but I still consider selling it just to take the cash out of the car and put it back in the bank where it belongs. It's a logic vs emotion conflict. My wife gets frustrated with me sometimes, but I point out that if I were "cured" and spent freely on all the things I really want that we'd be broke in no time! Nostatic, if you're considering therapy, let's do it in a group setting and save some money! |

Bingo...that's why I'm in frickin' therapy. But at least I admit I've got issues. Hey, while I'm at it I might as well 12-step...couldn't hurt. |

Nostatic,
You really need to ***** or get off the pot man. Not trying to be rude or anything, just honest. This saga has drug on long enough. Go buy yourself an SC for $9-10K that looks decent from 10 feet away and doesn't smoke out the neighbors when you start it up. Drive it and stop the whining. If it has some serious problems or you end up not liking it, sell the darn thing, maybe take a couple grand loss after driving it for a year or two, and get another one. I may be in the minority on this board, but my wife and I make nowhere near $200K. I would be happy if we are ever able to attain that kind of annual income anytime in our lives. I doubt we will. And I know that I easily afforded the SC sitting in my garage. Paid cash for it even. It's nowhere near being a show car, but at least I have one and I drive it. Better to have a piece of ***** P-car in your garage than to spend your life looking for and dreaming of owning a nice one. Now you're telling me that you make $200k a year and you're having a hard time justifying buying an old Porsche. WTF? Obviously you are afraid of actually having to commit to something and end this drama or you have some serious problems with managing your finances and really can't afford it. Most people spend $10k on a used import car to use as a daily driver, and spend a grand total of a couple hours looking for it. Take the plunge and stop living this vicarious existence!

where did you find that shot of rip van nostatic? thats kinda how i have always imagined nostatic,, except with the bus stop signage he's sitting at in the background. regarding the "nostaic fund", id prefer the red cross or the unitedway, hell even the homeless guy that sit infront of my favorite liquiorstore, so no i wont be contributing. im my favorite charity.
i agree with rip van statics plan for a search that leaves no stone unturned for the right rig,, but if color is a major factor,,, good luck! that was the last of my concerns when looking, i would have prefered almost any color but gaurds red,, but a 78 w/ 60K (its red) was not to be rejected due to color. i happen to be color blind though,, but i think you get the point. its like not dating a woman because of her hair color, hell if the curtins match the carpet,, bring her on.

Everyone else has added their two cents, making a grand total of like 44 cents for ol nostadic, so I am going to throw in mine to help the cause. I guess this is how I look at things, I unlike nostatic make nowhere near 200k a year. I am a college student (paying for own car and insurance which for me is like 2k a year). Basically, I set goals, and try to achieve them, like anything the Porsche was a goal, something I have always wanted, and many doubted I could accomplish at such a young age. But I worked 3 jobs last summer and am doing the same thing this summer. I recently purchased a 82 sc targa. The car is not in showroom condition but not bad either. When I finally got the car it was kind of anticlimactic; for I though it would change my life somehow. Of course I love the car and was in no way disappointed, it was just not what I had expected, so I feel that I suffer like nostatic does in that the hunt was more enjoyable than the actual kill. In my case the hunt was not finding the right one it was working hard to do something that people didn’t think I could do. But once achieving it people did not look at the car and think “gee that guy must have worked really hard,” rather I get a lot of that must be daddy’s car, or he must be some rich little prick. So I just found the whole thing a little anticlimactic, but then again now that I have owned the Porsche for a few months, I could not see myself driving anything but a Porsche. So I guess I don’t know. But nostatic I say if it’s the hunt you enjoy, hunt away. But remember you only live once and personally I want to spend as much of that time as I can in a Porsche with a beautiful woman beside me…… Now for the beautiful woman thing. Peace guys and hear is to everyone who has worked hard to live there dream!!!!!!

Nostatic it is your lucky day!
You can have mine for $13,500 cash. No kidding. Well below your 20K limit. I rarely use it anyway and could use the money for other things. Awesome mechanically, zero rust, good Eclipse radio with Orion component speakers. It is a driver so it is not a concours car... Most people think I am lying when I tell them it is a '79 ![]() No crappy oxygen sensor either. No oil leaks and not an oil burner.

SC search?
Hello Nostatic,
I waswondering how much was the SC that you should have bought? How much was the SC that you bought and sold? What kind of mileage are you looking for on the "next" SC? What kind of $?? I remember reading about a potential purchase for you and not wanting to "jinx" it, or maybe that wasn't you. I sorta forgot about it and figured that you bought/had your car by now. I didn't know that you passed on a car b/c it was red (first or second SC? not that it makes a difference [to me]). Since I am still in debt (should never have learned to sign my name by the "x"), I can't/won't contribute to your fund, but maybe I can help you find a low mileage SC. Are you looking only for a '78-9 or '80-up? Hope that I can help. FWIW, I'm not a dealer/seller/flipper (saw that [flipper]on an earlier thread/post). I'll check back after Tues. (trying to get to B'ville this weekend). |
