I like Magnus but this one is Fugly...... What a hodge podge. But like they say, there's an ass for every seat. Someone will love it and that's all that matters.

The reference to Zagato is really reaching and a disservice to Zagato who was a master. Just google his cars.
Zagato cars are a complete expression of a design concept , not just swoops, doops and louvers. His aluminum panels stretched over a delicate steel birdcage frame are amazingly fluid. I love Magnus and the energy and style he brings to Porsche but let's appreciate his work and style as its own unique accomplishment.

Overall I think they did a great job and it's done in good taste. As with most cars, there are things I like about it and some things I don't, but it's all about personal preference. I wouldn't kick it out of the garage at night, that's for sure!

You know the Magnus backlash has jumped the shark when people start preferring ghastly ridiculous undrivable abominations of stanced slammed cars over Magnus' works.
I think it's safe to now go back to liking Magnus cars again.

They are still doing this, but just with cheaper cars.

I love the passionate discussion that any thread involving Magnus inevitably becomes. It's a reflection of our love for the cars, and Porsche in general, otherwise, nobody would give a rat's ass. Many (most) of us have a car that Porsche made and it sits in the garage untouched, pretty much in it's original form. Why? Because we either don't have the time, money, or expertise to do anything different; or we are completely happy with our car as it came off the showroom floor. There are those of us who believe that what the factory does is sacred, and to deviate is blasphemous. There are others who like to build things and develop our cars to suit our needs and personal taste. Both groups are fine, neither is wrong. The thing that I think gets lost sometimes is that Magnus isn't building cars for anyone but himself, in the same way that anything I do to my car is for me. For instance, I want to do IROC front and rear bumpers with a duck tail. These two things are not "period correct" with each other, but I like the way they look.
I think Magnus' new ride is really nicely done. The build quality is great. I don't like the rear end, but then again I think all 964s look like they have been kicked in the ass. For myself, I would have lost the rear reflector, but that would be easier said than done without going the obvious route of copying Singer. But hey, it's not my car. Although... I'd really like to take it for a good blast!! Magnus, if you are on here, please accept my heartfelt condolences. Nice to see that your Mom is with you as well.

Criticism is always easy but redesigning an icon, even subtlety takes vision and skill. All ideas may not be appreciated, but to achieve even one or two is a step forward. I feel we are watching a new chapter and evolution in his design. It may not be perfect but he will continue to work it until people start falling over themselves and one bring amazing money at auction.
I am not a fan of all everything he does, but I admire his artistry whether good or bad. Then there are are those who always resent others with more talent, money or vision. Criticism is easy.

The clown-car fad has struck our beloved brand. Sooner or later the extremes must be sought with any popular car (or any popular cultural movement) and the stance/slam/big+wide wheel/tire fad is that extreme with the 911.

I've been following this thread and thinking a lot about what I would do if it was me and a 964.
Singer has their backdate direction RWB has their stance direction (if it is what it is but RWBs seem to work on the track so maybe not) Magnus has this art deco outlaw direction. To me they are all cool, but, I think the next major build of a 964 should be more contemporary to the 964 era. Rather than the 60s and 70s, without doing a direct copy, I would look to the 964 993 race cars for influence Whichever direction, adding deep wheels is just what any 964 needs

Until MW (and Singer for that matter) start driving their creations on the race track, the criticisms will and should continue.
MW attended RR, I don't think he even drove his "iconic" 911 on the track during that entire event. They have the money. Just need to put it to work in the right place. Last edited by pmax; 11-21-2015 at 11:44 AM.. |

As for Magnus, he was a Poc fixture for more than a decade before Urban outlaw was made. He s got hundreds more hours of track time than you do.

It's just that I wouldn't do the RWB look to my car. I love a lot of different cars/looks -- most of the time I'm looking for inspiration for what to do next or what I'd like to do on another car someday for me. I put a ducktail on my '83 SC coupe (the horror!). I'm just irritated by some of the comments I've seen. Critique and criticism have different meanings. It is possible to not like something without being disparaging.

My two cents? He doesn't do this for the attention. Or for your approval. Or even for the money. Stop trying to piss in his Cheerios.
Nice car. Some good ideas. You never know what works and what doesn't until you try it on the road. |
