Like you I built a badasz Targa that I absolutely loved.
Not sure but I think we may crossed paths as I seem to recall seeing your car some where..MM? I've owned a couple 911's prior and a couple after the Targa. Long story short I found myself driving the Targa less so I sold it and picked up a 964..drove the heck out that car but eventually sold it and picked up a 75 Coupe which currently scratches the itch well... All in all, other then the 75 the 911 that I miss and regret selling is the Targa..why? I think because I built it and had it "dialed in" so well and nothing is better then a fall night, heater cranked and ripping with the top off...maybe stick it in storage and see how you feel after a couple of months and then maybe you will have clarity well after April fools day. One thing I can guarantee...you will miss it

The 2K has ALL its power up top. NO low end. I would miss that. Plus when growing up I never dreamed of owning anything but a Porsche. But have fun and beat it to death. They ARE fun rides but so is a Moped.....
![]() BTW my DD is also a Honduh....

I've owned multiple Porsches (911,993, 951, 981S), but my 2004 S2000 was/is the best car I have ever owned. I'm on my second 2004 S2000 now, after putting 275K miles on my first 2004 and then selling it to a friend who converted it a dedicated track car (with the original engine). The maintenance on the S2K is minimal and inexpensive for the type of fun you can with the car. The DIY things that I did were fluid changes, plugs, brakes, and a clutch swap every 95K miles. Amazing reliability.
I still own a 993, 951 and the S2000. All great fun cars. If I had to have one as a DD/track car, it would have to be the S2000. |

I've known of several people who got S2000s and none of them kept them long. I didn't know them well enough to know why but I figured that wasn't a good sign.

I think like everyone else says you will regret selling the 911 without a doubt.
I had a 1969 911 E that I sold for 36k to a flipper that did a quick restore on it. I regret selling that one for sure. All though my 77 S with a 3.0 Twin plug is a much better drivers car and I enjoy it a lot more. |

I, by no means consider to be able to weigh in on your particular situation, since first off, am a car hoarder. That said, it's really up to you, but there is one thing I can point your attention to, which is S2000s are dirt cheap. Having said that, The question is: Why are people getting rid of them? I mean, the 911 has its charms, but there is a different car for everybody. The driving dynamics of a car are yours to choose and like. There's also the fact that it's not the same to drive a car every once in a while than daily. One night stands are not in any way a preview to marriage!

OP bought an S2000 that is worth $25k+. A true unicorn.
Why not spend $1000 on garage space and keep both cars for this 2017 season. You might have a better sense of which you like over the course of a few months. Even a few weeks with the S2000 will probably tell you which you prefer.

Sorry if this was already mentioned, but why not buy an earlier narrow body 911 so you have both the lighter weight earlier Porsche for its rawness, and the S2000 for its eminent reliability and wow technologies (variable camshaft is pretty cool).

There is one here in town with 5ok miles asking 14k. I would call that dirt cheap especially considering a boxter of the same year is a potential time bomb.
And my daily is a 2016 civic, that I absolutely love. Just a great comfortable car with way more than you need and put together very well. I went from a 2016 M3 and like this car more, the M3 was just too much for the street just not enough room to have fun. Last edited by Eli W; 04-02-2017 at 05:38 PM.. |

That NYC/Brooklyn storage sure is expensive. How about finding some cheaper storage upstate or over the river that is a whole lot cheaper. Not so convenient but it will give you time to think about things. The trouble with selling a car such as yours is it would be hard to replace if you sell and feel it's all been a big mistake.

The s2000 is a honda and Honda's were made to sit outside. There's at least 3 of them in my neighborhood. All owned by 25 year old or younger. My sons friend is in college and his sits for 6months at time and has never had a problem with it. It's a very durable car, still not a 911. Buy a hardtop and find a good place to park it.
Hope it was cheaper than 25k. If you sell the 911 and hate the Honda will you be able to buy another 911? Yes it could go up in value but it could also end up like a 924 or 944 great car but limited interest. If you can afford keep both 2 toys are better than one. Let's see pictures of the Honda and good luck with it you will enjoy it.

Well as far as value goes on the S2000, there is a big problem.
The thing is the S2000's are bullet proof, having one with crazy low miles is not going to get you as much value. If you had a low mileage original 911 it can add to the value of these cars easily. I really like the S2000, it looks like it would be a blast to drive and this thread got me looking at slightly older sports cars, cars around 10 years old. If I was in the market for a S2000 I would not care about the mileage one bit as long as it was under 100k. The premium for the mileage is just not worth it too me, Honda's in general just don't break. Heck this even true with their PWC. After the S2000 I also read reviews about Z4 M cars and how they were also great little cars, but they cost a lot more than the S2000 and having owned a 335I that was out of warranty I think I will pass. Z4 has better looks than the honda but when the red light gremlins come on, I would be kicking myself for not getting a honda. |

You'll be able to find a good deal on a clean S2000 for decades. You'll never get your 911 back.

Being a small time car collector I now have 9 in total. Two of those being a 2007 S2000 and 82 911 Turbo. As some have stated clean S2000's will come and go. I would personally never let go of my 911. In the event you do decide to sell yours, I'd love to get a look at it. I am a huge fan of a red Targa.

Lol, that is the thing you could sell your 911 for good money with no trouble at all. Especially since spring is on the way.
You could sell your P car to SweetWater and it would be gone for good. The styling of the Honda was and will never be iconic. The Honda is a great drivers car and it would be a fun modern car to drive daily but the value of it will go down with the years. There are just plenty of them out there to chose from as far as the S2000 go. Last edited by Eli W; 04-03-2017 at 09:47 AM.. |

This is a pineapple vs prime rib question. If it was a watercooled vs S2000 it would make sense. This is a classic aircooled Porsche vs a modern sportscar. There are Hyundais that have more power and better handling(on the freeway) than my 911. I have driven both the S2000 and early Acura NSX, while they both were cool in their own way, I would never consider them in the same class as my Carerra. You can find a long list of cars that will outperform your 911, lets see how many there are on the road or discussed in forums after the next 35 years.
