I'm scheduled to fly to Charleston tomorrow, with a drive down to Hilton Head on Wed morning. Just tried to call the hotel in HH. All busy tones or no answer. They must be in the thick of it now. I hate to eat $1,400 in flights, but I certainly don't want to go there and get in the way of clean-up if it's flooded.

Anybody in that area who can give me some guidance? bbturbo?

Here's our front yard/street in Charleston.
Power is out.
We are across the street from the Wando river.
Looks the same as Mathew at a cat 1 last year.

Power is back on in west melbourne after it went off again at midnight.

Minor damage from wind driven rain into attic through vents.

Not much damage at my place. I'll be replacing some screens on my pool cage, and some repair from last minute storm prep.

A friend of mine who checked out my house said everything looked good, except I'm missing a dozen eggs, a few bottles of champagne, and a bottle of wine or two. Evidently his wife decided to start drinking again.

My friend in Sarasota called. Made it through unscathed. Even his plane and it's hanger a-ok. He did say he'd still do it differently next time. With enough warning he'd head to his plane (RV7A) and get out of Dodge.

My friend in Summerland Key (Near Cudjoe (sp?) key where it first touched land) I haven't heard from since he called from his motorhome headed north. Assuming he's okay, but looking at TV footage of the keys, he may not have much to return to.

Damn! Maybe life in the political hell of Oregon isn't so bad after all.

We are still sitting up in Eglin, waiting for orders on deployment. Looks like possibly Jacksonville or Ocala.

My family is in Sarasota. Been there since 1945. Never evacuated before. They left Saturday (my father kicking and screaming) for Atlanta. They have no idea what to expect when they return home...

Got power back, can't get to the warehouse because of trees and power lines blocking the road in, back garage flooded and the road into my neighborhood still flooded. Locally, lots of damage

Daughter's house in Kissimmee had some shingles blow off and some screens damaged on the pool enclosure. That's it. Power went out in the early morning and was back on by 7PM. This was her first hurricane and she said the wind noise from inside the house was off the charts. At one point they thought the entire garage was ripped off the house - it wasn't ...

We can thank the media for over-hyping this storm as per usual. Almost every prediction was wrong. It started with the way they ginned up fear when reporting the damage to the Caribbean islands like Barbuda - "95% of the Country's Building Are Gone! Run!!". Of course, they left out a couple of minor details - the buildings were mostly substandard shacks and the "country" is a tiny island in the middle of the ocean. Not exactly a good predictor of what might happen to well-built buildings on a large land mass

Buildings in Florida are designed for wind speeds of 120MPH in the north to 180MPH in the south. Most of the damage is to either older substandard buildings or flimsy manufactured homes.

Thanks Steve. I got the airline to postpone my flights until Thursday. It should be dried out by then. I wish everybody there the best and hope the damage is minimal.

Should be minimal damage if any. Talked to my friend who stuck it out in Sarasota. Everything a-ok for him. No damage, never even lost power in his neighborhood.

The extent of our damages: an oak tree down at the property line.
