Selling guns

Can I legally sell guns to an individual without paperwork and fees. I have a couple shotguns I bought 5 years ago to hunt ducks and haven't used them. Used to hunt when I was younger and gave my guns to my nephew. Then after years of talking about getting back into hunting bought 2 shotguns and looks like I'll never use them.

Guess it varies state to state but here in Ga., nothing is required whatsoever. If I was the original owner, I would get some type of bill of sale for your records so if it's involved in a crime down the road, you have proof it isn't yours anymore.

Yup.

Gifted a .22 to a co worker.

A year later his apt was broken into.

They took the gun.

It's not just who you sell it to that may be an issue down the road.

I have several that I traded other items for that have no paperwork whatsoever. I don't see the need to go through the registration process just to let the government know I have them.

Just remember, it is still illegal to sell a gun to someone who would fail 4473. You might use a downloaded copy or just make an afidavit with similar wording.

For me? If the person has a CHL, doing a face to face transaction is OK. Otherwise, I'd do the transfer at a FFL. I do not want the liability.

Exactly. Same in KS, I’ve only done a face to face once but we both filled out a bill of sale and had a CHL. Met in the Cabelas parking lot.

Purchased a shotspoon from a younger guy in the mountains some months back. The only paperwork and checks involved were me looking at the spoon and then handing him a few Franklins .

Selling to a felon is also a big no no! Form 4473 questions are germane.

I would strongly suggest going to a gun store to get the holder of a FFL advice. Many states do not require paperwork if the transfer is in state or to a relative. If your sale crosses state lines then the firearm has to go to a FFL to receive it, Federal law. If looks like you live in NV which has pretty loose gun laws as compared to CA or NY or NJ but I would ask the "expert" to be safe.

Alaska state troopers have a phone number where the purchaser can check a gun’s serial number. They swear no records of the calls are kept.

You will get one of three responses.

There is no problem with this gun.
There is a problem with this gun.
Where are you exactly?

Same thing applies when you don't know where it came from.

Living in the free state of Florida I can legally sell to anyone over 18 who is a resident of Florida and who I have no reason to believe are disqualified (felon, domestic violence, etc - the 4473 questions)

HOWEVER... when I sell as an individual, my own policy is to either see the buyer's CCW permit OR to transfer through a local dealer ($25 is average charge around here). And yes, I'll cover the cost of paperwork/transfer out of the guns purchase price.

You cannot prove it's a felon. It could even be a felon that was non violent crime and have their rights back. Plus felons know that if they got caught with a firearm, they're going away for a long time.

I find it kinda weird that you went to that specific no go. Mental status, drug user, ect are way better questions to ask someone before you sell them a spoon

The genius on this Board is astounding.

Since you opened your mouth on a Public Forum...guess what?

Private sales are legal in NV BUT.........

LEGALLY in NEVADA you have to transfer a gun through either the PD or FFL to do a background check on the Buyer... FFL's charge money and the PD did it for Free...

I never move anything without a piece of paper from an FFl. Antiques are the exception.

Once it is on an FFL's books I am absolved of any and all responsibility...

So if the paper trail ends with you and your private Buyer should create mayhem with the item well guess who they come looking for and gets in a jam if you didn't do it the legal way...Do you feel lucky today, well do ya?

Some of you Boyz are playing with fire...

Maybe I'm misinterpreting, but what does talking about it on a Publc Forum have to do with it?

We're allowed to play with fire in NC...

My shotspoon purchase was perfectly legal....I ain't telling nobody I'm a felon though
