Eh, it turned out all right. Got it dropped off with a good mechanic and hopefully they can figure out the fuel issue and get it running soon. I really want to drive it.

tweaked the shocks a bit today. getting super close to perfect now. almost stock ride down the road, but nicely firming up in the corners.
also tweaked the stereo a bit. changed the Q setting on a few of the 31 bands of the EQ on the front channels, and bumped the gains on the rear channel of the amp a bit, and cut the bottom end at 48 db/octave at 110hz. changed the crossover type on the sub and set at 48db/octave to make a really nice clean cut. much smoother now. |

Got my 944 through emissions this morning. Passed no problems. Person doing the testing said it looked great by the numbers.
Although getting to that point took a bit of work. Car came without a cat, and a really crappy muffler. Thanks to PorscheNut924 I got a good muffler.. passed on the cat from him, even though my gut told me to get it.. oh well.. no big deal.. local exhaust shop didn't charge much at all for a new cat and to do the fab work to fit the stock muffler back on. Exhaust was a bit hacked from PO's. Fresh plugs and an air filter helped as well. Now.. some PO rounded out the fill plug on the trans-axle.. it's leaking a bit, and needs oil.. this is going to be interesting to figure out. Might cheat and have a buddy tack weld a nut or bolt to it.. already have new fill and drain plugs here.. |

Wow, your upcoming setup will be a drastic change from stock. A stiff rear end like that will be drift central!

nope - it will be fine. remember that the rear is only 56% effective, so the 550# rate will be 308 wheel rate.
what will make it a mess is if gas shocks are used. it took me a while to work out hydraulic shocks to settle down the nasty issues that gas brings into the mix. much better ride though. |

Ah, yes, you are correct.
It would actually have a stiffer front end proportionally, compared to stock. 315 front- 308 rear vs 126 front- 126 rear

The other day I rebuilt my clutch slave cylinder . The piston was stuck all the way forward and the rubber boot was torn. It turned out the rubber boot was originally on backwards (based on the exploded view and other pictures I used as a guide for reassembly). Today I finally got around to installing it.
![]() ![]() I also installed my control arms with new bushings/ball joints. To top things off I added some Elephant Racing caster blocks. ![]() Last thing I did was put the catalytic converter heat shield back on. ![]() I need to get that new wire wheel for my drill so I can finish my spring plates and get those installed. Only two more paychecks and I can afford my coilovers.... Last edited by Chunkerz; 08-23-2014 at 07:18 PM.. |

I took my 924s to the track to try my hand at Time Attack. Discovered that I need Gravol. Enjoyed pushing it hard enough to feel the tires drift a bit.

fiddled with the stereo some more. still not happy with the disparity between the front mids and the front woofers and tweeters. they currently share an amp and eq channel, and the mids are up in the OEM tweeter locations, which makes the sound change too much sitting versus top up driving versus top down driving.
i think i need to add another amp so i can put them on their own 1/3 octave EQs. fortunately the 3sixty3 has that capability, and also fortunately the wiring won't be too tough. then it will be time to look into porting the subs. they get a bit waffly at 100hz, due to the shallow nature of the box. right volume, but wrong shape. a port might tighten that up a bit. |

I just recently finished new ball joints, bushings, and castor blocks. Also all new bushings all around the front sway bar. No more clunks and handles like it should!! Also replaced the shifter. Feels almost like new! However I noticed when I was under the car and I wanted to replace the fuel filter, whoever did the last one over tightened the line between the pump and filter. Totally kinking the line... No wonder I hear the fuel pump. I have a new line coming and will hopefully get that done over the weekend!!

Finally got around to putting the new tie rod inners and ends. Fixed the excessively loose front wheel bearings while I was at it. This totally removed apparent looseness from the passenger side. Driver's side seems the same (which isn't bad). We'll see how it drives.
I managed to gum up the top of the power steering rack's main shaft with vice grips while providing counter torque for the tie rod ends. I hit it with a fine file, and I'll be going over it with fine grit sandpaper/steel wool tomorrow to smooth it out. It will still be pitted, but, given its position (on the other side of the outermost teeth), it hopefully won't be a big issue in terms of maintaining seals.

Hit the pitted area on the main steering shaft with 600 grit dry, 600 grit wet, and 1200 grit wet for a final polish. It isn't perfect, but it'll have to do. It's nearly at the "locked left" position, so I doubt I'll be hitting it more than very occasionally to begin with.
Amusingly, my damage from yesterday isn't the only blemish on that side. Lessons learned: stick some soft metal between the main shaft and vice grips.
