Today (hopefully) is my cam tower to head attachment...

So, I plan to use the 1104 Neo, which I believe is recommended.
How Much sealant do I need to apply?
Is it a matter of applying a small bead to the tower around the bolt holes or does the whole surface need to be "spread" with a thin layer?

The below photo I pulled from a screen shot of the Pfixit dvd (which I have watched about 20 times)

just on the copper gasket ?
both side

or around the cylinder going inside the case ?

thanks for your help

We use Curil T on both sides of the base gasket and on any gasket that may be removed regularly (IE: sump cover gaskets).
The sealant you see on the cylinder spigot is excess wiped from the gasket. Won't hurt but isn't necessary.

Personally I'm not a fan of Curil T, never fails to leak for me.
I have 2 unopened tubes here both from supertec kits. I'll never use them.

Only place I use RTV is the base shims,
If you're a RTV hater you can use something like Elring Dirko....oh wait that's also RTV....or maybe...damn it's RTV again

thanks Henri

will use the Curil T

as I asked you, I don't know what kind of grease or perhaps oil I should use with the supertec head stud kit.

porsche rebuild manual says to use optimoly HT for the washer and the stud thread (hex nut side).

some friends just use oil

or dry ? (I don't think so)

what's the best solution ?

Old stud kit came with anti seize but newer kits come with Supertec SpeedLube.
It's a formula we've developed over the past 15 years that we've used in our engine for at least 10 year. Over 300,000 test miles.

Other person(s) bought the kits.
Also in Canada so cost of shipping would likely be the same as the refund.

FYI, the blue o-rings supplied in the Victor Reinz kits are silicone rubber. Our host here offers 5 different flavors.

Perhaps off topic but.....

What sealant should I use on my transmission gaskets? This leak started suddenly about 2 weeks ago. Trans was rebuilt, by me, about 5 years ago. Lots of autocrosses and DEs since. Nuts are tight.

Thanks,

I used the paper gasket plus copper spray on gasket.

Thanks,
When I rebuilt my transmission everyone recommended paper gaskets with curel t. I have no leaks thus far.

Thanks,
I used Loctite 574 and no paper gaskets.

Thanks.

I am leaning toward curl-t this time around.

It's weird, to me, that one week my trans was dry. The next week it starts to leak from the gasket?

Over the years, my method varied depending on specific intent.
In a race transmission where it is likely to be disassembled frequently, I use Curil T.
When building a gear box that will likely be together for an extended period of time, I use a thin coat of 574 on the paper gasket.

That's good to know.

BTW. I used a thin coat of RTV on the gaskets when I built this trans about 5 years ago. Worked for five years. Once I get it apart in a couple of days maybe the point of failure will be evident

This truth still stands:

After 16 plus years and literally hundreds of 911 based air-cooled engines assembled using Dow 55 o-ring lubricant, we have had zero reported instances of case leaks due to o-ring failure. Over the past few years of selling our case sealing kit through our host, Pelican Parts, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
As a matter of fact, we are sending out a stock order for sealing kits today.

You don't have to trust me, the DOD uses Dow 55 today after decades of success in the weapon systems listed below that are still in service.
