Yeah those piston circlips are a real PITA. That's why Stomski invented the circlip injector. Expensive, but man does it work (and eliminate cursing).

It may be a lot too late to say this but if the edges pointed out by the arrows are as sharp as they look you might want to consider a slight blend to take the sharp edge away. Not a pro here but been around the block a time or two.

PFM, those edges are pretty sharp, I thought it was to help them cut through the air better. How should they be smoothed? Emery cloth?

Ok I need to let everyone know that letting a 5 yo play with zip dry may sound like a good idea, but it isn't.

My son put a scoop in one of the cylinders.

How bad could it be?

Smoothing the edges of the pistons is done to reduce detonation. The sharp edges are very thin and heat up easily.

I'd pull that cylinder off and clean it & the piston + rings very good!

He was just trying to stop the oil from leaking.

You dont want nyloc nuts inside the engine, the plastic will melt

I am doing a lot of the steps twice. I put the wrong cam in yesterday and now I have to change all the nuts. I wonder were all those are supposed to go? They came in one of the "kits" I got?

I am beginning to think this was a bad idea. I was replacing the nuts and washers on the cam towers and dropped a washer in the case.

I got lucky fishing it out but there was a lot of cussing.





Can you reuse chain ramp washers? How about the lock nuts? I know the aluminum crush washers are wasted.

Inside the engine youre suposed to use wavey spring steel washers with non nyloc nuts
I get them from Lilly Fasteners in Shelby, NC, or Newark, Del.
The aluminum washers are used on chain box covers and the valve covers. Centerline of the case uses the steel washers provided and prevailing torque nuts on the Carrera and later.

Bruce I originally used aluminum washers and the nyloc nuts. I was changing them over to the original spring washer and nuts (reusing the old ones).

Can I use copper washers on the chain ramp bolts instead of aluminum?

As long as they're the right size for the shank of the bolt, copper is fine. Just need something relatively soft to crush and seal the oil from weeping out.
