Tim at Ollie's just notified me: my cylinders are out of spec at 3/1000th, max oem spec is 1.5/1000th.
With Limited Budget, what would you do? My thought is to widen to 98MM 3.4L with new 9.5:1 Pistons ( keep it single plug ) TIA, Jim

Limited budget and Porsche engines are not compatible.
You can stay at 95mm with a replate of the bores or go larger for a little bit more cash with 3.2 based cylinders. Ebs racing could set you up with 98mm replated cylinders and JE pistion for about $2k. not sure there are any cheaper alternatives. |

Agreed
![]() Yeah, the larger piston set just bring me over $1000 over budget, so not bad. I was expecting Cylinder work but bore and honing will certainly be done. Thanks for chiming in.

I went with EBS on the bore to 3.4, and then 9.8:1 Max Moritz Mahle pistons. Still single plug (though I am in Michigan and we have 93 octane gas). Beautiful outcome. You save a lot by not having to buy new cylinders, and MM pistons are, if I recall, comparable in price to JE. Also, talk to Steve Wong about the set up; he has great input on this.
Remember, you hopefully only have the thing torn down one in a great while; take advantage of the opportunity! Best of luck... |

abides.

I'm curious if you could find a good used set for less than it would cost to replate and hone back to 95mm spec.

Here's what I was quoted from U.S. Chrome last February, which most everyone ships their cylinders to.
$199 each for a basic replate $230 each if skim cut the bore to get to good base metal and shape $262 each if any welding is needed You didn't mention whether your pistons are in spec. In any case, pistons must be sent in with cylinders to insure proper fitting tolerances.
