I cannot post the Von K 914 without this added "vintage" photo.

This was another 914 that Danny M. did for Altec Lansing speakers in the 1980's. Gotta love that big hair and those suede knee high's. Soooooooo 80's

I would love to meet Harald Von Keszycki. My kind of guy if he used to build that monster Porsche stuff. I grew up not to far from Von K Enterprises. Harald is 82 years old now.

Harold is by no means over the hill. His daily driver is a 2001.5 Audi S4 Avant, Silver Sport Package, Clear Corner Headlights, GPS Navigator, Bose Stereo System, heads-up boost gauge and turbo timer. Full APR Stage 3 (M-box) kit with RS4 inlet, turbo and fueling kit. RS4 intercoolers, RS4 oil cooler, AWE Stage 3 dual friction clutch, AWE down pipes, AWE Twin2 exhaust, StopTech 332 brakes front, Stasis 298 brakes rear, Stasis Motorsport 700 lb/in front, 800 lb/in rear coil-over suspension, 22 mm rear swaybar, 32 mm hollow front sway bar, adjustable upper control arms with boots. Extra set of 8.5x18 Fikse ARO wheels with 245/35-18 Hoosier R3S03 tires. For track, fog lights and grills removed. Advertised power: 428 HP.

This is Harald in his Audi wagon in 2005. He retired from racing at 80 years old. Not bad in my book.

Check out this video. I hope I am still going like a bat out of hell like Harald at 80 years old in a wagon. Way cool. Harald is overtaking the car with the camera.

OH MY!!!

I lost track of this thread due to work and a two week vacation back the SVO Reunion in Kentucky. There are likely tons of pics from RIR that I would have to dig deep to find. I got reminded to check in here and play catch up when Vic called me to show up at Bob's for last Friday's cruise night. Mark, Kevin and a few others were also there to share old stories.

I have several pics of the Mustang, the 200SX and 300ZX Nissans, the X1/9, some Fiat 850's buried somewhere. I have slides from the Can Am of Donohue in the 917 that I took from under the turn 6 grandstands (we knew all the course workers so we didn't get chased away). I even remember being on top of the burger stand in the turn 6 infield snapping pics.

Send me a PM with a good Email address. I tried sending a few pics to you a while back but the address I had must have been a dated one so I gave up.

Nice to see that car finally in finished form. DH had it languishing for years with his own version of super wide rear body work. Still has the specially plated wheels i see

I remember his 246 Dino project too- slated to receive a DFV F-1 Cosworth motor
Now that would have made a fast Dino it it had ever been finished !!

Way to go Kevin. It's nice to see cars from years ago enjoying the retirement they deserve.

I wish I'd had more to do with that car. It was a great project and Dan was a great guy to work with. No matter what anybody has to say Dan will remain a man among men in my book. It's a real shame the whole deal fell apart the way it did. That was one bitter divorce he went thru. 'Course that was long before the O.J. and Robert Blake Divorce Technique was developed.

Dan Haggerty is also a master chef. He makes one hell of Ginger Garlic Marinade and a Kick'in BBQ Sauce! You gotta try his Garlic Jalipeno Mustard! Isnt his real name Gene?

The lola pictured at daytona was one of james garner's cars. NOT the same one as any of the "dan's"
Confusing since the logo was given to Dan Mc Gloughlin , from Garner, when he set up his AIR biz in Burbank
And furthermore since Dan M had gotten one of the THX 1138 movie Lolas , fixed it and put it on the street painted just like the Daytona racer

Clear enough?

David are you aware of any pictures of McLoughlin's Lola? I don't think I've ever seen any other than stills from the movie itself.

[Homer Simpson voice] mmmmmm...... Lohhhhh Lahhhhhsss!!!! [\Homer simpson voice]

Instead of trying to paraphrase this I'll just cut and paste. This is from John Starkey of Lola Heritage on 17 May this year;

"THX 1138. The coupe that crashed in the film was a Mark 1 Spyder, SL70/14, that was bought by John Ward from the studios with no bodywork; it had previously been used as a camera car by Bob Bondurant. Jon Ward, who drove the T70s in THX 1138 couped it, with the special "add ons" on the tail for the film and crashed it head on into something concrete! I spoke to Jon about this only yesterday. Jon had a young Dan McLoughlin come out to his place in S. California and straighten and mend the tub as Dan wanted to learn all about the "new" monocoque chassis; Jon Ward then returned the T70 to the studios. Dan then bought SL73/117, the other T70 used in the film from John, (he traded a Baja racer and a 330GT Ferrari for it), and had a glorious three years with it, including seeing 180 mph on the freeway with it, before selling it back to Jon Ward. In 1973, Jon sold this coupe to the famous drag racer, Eddie Hill and last Friday, I brokered a deal between Eddie and a European customer of mine, who bought this wonderful car; Certainly the best kept Mark 111 I have ever encountered.

SL73/117 had been built in July, 1967 as a road car, according to the Lola records, and shipped to America. James Garner bought it, painted it white with red flashes and then entered it at Sebring in 1968, together with SL73/131. After this, SL73/117 did a few Can Am races with Ed Leslie before it's finest hours, when it placed second overall to the Penske entered T70 Mark 111b, SL76/139 at the 1969 Daytona 24 Hours. It was then 6th at the Sebring 12 Hours before Garner was forced to disband his team by the studio. That's when Jon Ward acquired it for THX 1138."[John Starkey]

So, it sounds like Garner had two Lolas and one of them became the THX1138/McGloughlin/Ward/Eddie hill car. Clear as mud eh!

Below are a couple of photos of the car from Eddie Hill.

I don't think i have any.
I knew of Dan's first shop (converted gas station?) in the Burbank area with the cool modified GT 350's , corvettes, etc.
Then an article came out in Motor Trend about how you can get an exotic sports car for cheap money. The car was a red Lola T70 with a crate Z28 motor- all that for less than $10k !
So I see this red Lola crusing the streets of the valley while I was in high school. Always going the other direction or me without a car.
One night on Van Nuys Bl, at the Chevron station at the corner of Magnolia I spot a dark blue T-70 with that distinctive AIR across the bow. Holy #@%! , there it is! the car of my dreams!!
Dan was really cool outlining the whole process on how he legalized this car, the hassles with LAPD, etc etc finishing with an invitation to come visit his shop in Burbank. What an inspiration for a car nut
He was in the 1st Burbank Bl location at that point and started customizing Porsches later. Lots more to chat about at another time .

But that poor lola ended up catching fire and burning quite extensively. I don't know where it finally ended up>>> I guess the fire was not that bad!

There does indeed seem to be some confusion (or is it just me?) as to which car is which. In conversation with the current owner of the Haggerty Lola he states that his was originally a spyder. He states that Lola Records back up this detail. However the car obviously is a coupe. I have pictures of the car (Haggerty's) in construction and I can see NO signs of a spyder to coupe modification. Knowing McLoughlin as I do (and his self confessed adventures in "creative" conversions) I wonder if there has been some "swapping" of parts and pieces of these two THX cars. Or does it really matter?
