Very nice, Chris.

Does the MIRRC shop offer license plate frames?

Virgin posters of King of the Mountain are scarce. Almost all of the ones availble are folded with crease marks.
This one has been hanging in the den for many years.

There's still a lot more to share with you guys, if you're interested.
Let me know!

Painted the inside of the jambs today.
Next week end will be the paint party on the exterior.

the doors too.

I don't know why the pics are so lousy but they look great in person. I'm using BMW Arctic Silver for the lower portion.

Once. Best night race ever. It's in this thread back aways. (Rest in peace Charley, you will not be forgotten, we will make sure of that.)

Charley Woit or "Crazy Charley" as he was known, is the foremost legend of Mulholland Drive. Charley was the "King of the Hill" for many years. He was outside of the many groups that raced on Mulholland, he was in his own class, The King of the Mountain class. I was honored to race with him once and to have talked with him numorous occasions when he worked on my SCCA Camaro, (the subject of Mulholland never came up in our conversations, it was definetely a unique experience).

Note: I have rare footage from old TV that I have mostly transferrred to DVD, some old Beta will need restoration before it can be shown.

Does anyone know how to transfer video in DVD format to Windows Vista Media Player? Specifically, how to save video to a file location so that youtube can find it and download it. I have spent some time on this, Vista is sometimes not user friendly.

windows doesn't allow this to deter media piracy, you will need third-party software to do this.

if you want to send me the media, i can convert it and send it back to you.

Here's the story you were talking about earlier in the thread, Chris.

Charlie was the reason, the only reason that I built a custom-built Porsche racecar made just for Mulholland. One night in 1974, I was racing along Mul with my sidekick Bruce Kusada in my silver '73 911S. I loved to drive by Grandstands and goad those folks out to race to improve my racing skills. One night right in front of Grandstands, a dark old pickup passed me without headlights. I never saw him coming. I immediately pursued, but this guy was all over the road, making it impossible to pass. I saw a beer can go out the drivers window just before lower Coldwater. Finally in European Straight, I began to make a pass. This guy was not going to let me in, I had to complete the pass entering the first left hander, I think the little Porsche went up on 2 wheels as I barely, and I mean barely recovered the car. Bruce was punching me as we passed Brando's house because he thought that there was no way of making that alive. I was barely able to make ground in the next half mile. just enough to escape and dissapear just as he had appeared without headlights on. When I hear that Mulholland Charlie (and don't forget HE IS the legend) was never beaten on Mulholland, even in his pickup, I just smile and remember that after that evening I realized that there was no way to compete with the best with only a 911S to bring to the table. Hence the reason for the Mulholland Carrera RSR. By the way, I thank the Lord that Charlie and I never raced our big racecars. It would have ended up with at least one fatality, and that would have been unacceptable for him or myself.

Thanks. I looked into it further. After converting the video file to something like "Quick Time" for example, Youtube will accept it as a download. Hopefully it will be available soon.

Thanks for posting that Derek. Do you know where everything is on this (your) thread? Most Impressive!

Dave thanks for re-posting Mul Maniacs. I can re-do it now so that it will be of much higher quality.

However I need to change gears at the moment . After spending some time with Vehicle registration today, I was able to learn several things. (I don't want to hit a brick wall just as the car runs again).

I will post later, right now my wife is demanding that we go to dinner.
You'd think that this was more important than a little anniversary (heh, heh).

Porsche Crest Registration

If a car isn't registered in California for several years it falls off the computer record.

The Carrera is registered as a 1976 model car, due to being a special construction completed in that year. Special Construction is a way of re-registering a car if it has been modified from original configuration.

Most of the car is a 1973 911S chassis with 1974 clips on the front and rear to accomidate the big bumpers...but the section of the car that includes the dash and the under dash, with it's VIN number panel next to the gas heater box, is from a 1967.

So...since 1976 and 1967 are almost the same, it must be a typo! (Don't you love it?)
I can either claim that someone messed up and made a typographical error, or something more creative.

If I claim that I have lost the Certificate of Title and request a new one...
and I say that it is a 1967 model year and bring it in for certification...
they will have to accept it since by VIN it is a 1967 Porsche. And since it has fallen off of the record, I can claim whatever I want to.
I could claim that it is a 1973 chassis since most of it really is a 1973 chassis.

If this is successful, then I can run the car with my RSR motor without worrying about any smog resrictions.
There's nothing like being exempt.

There is the possibilty of getting Historical Vehicle plates/status. I will have to check further on that.

Chris make a long story short and have someone lien it for you. Much easier than jumping thru all the hoops DMV will have you doing.

Chris, Radu's race car is a 1969 tub, so it's registered as such... even with all the mods. Perhaps you could ask Dave B. about the specifics of this situation. I'm sure he's been through it plenty.

I don't think Chris will have any major problems updating the reg on the car. If he has the title in hand showing the original registration date in his name all he will owe is about 30 years of back fees and current tag fee's (inless it was non op'd). Jeezzzzzzzzzzzzz! You are going to write a fat check Chris.

The special construction classification will apply to the model year as registered on pink. Worst case scenario is a DMV or CHP physical inspection to authenticate the VIN which may be the way to go to avoid visual and sniffer inspection. The typo road in my opinion is an advantage. He has owned the car so long it his word against the DMV numbnuts. Real numbers proving the year will prevail in the end.
Trust me..been there.

As you can see by:
Specially Constructed Vehicle 580.
A "specially constructed vehicle" is a vehicle which is built for private use, not for resale, and is not constructed by a licensed manufacturer or remanufacturer. A specially constructed vehicle may be built from (1) a kit; (2) new or used, or a combination of new and used, parts; or (3) a vehicle reported for dismantling, as required by Section 5500 or 11520, which, when reconstructed, does not resemble the original make of the vehicle dismantled. A specially constructed vehicle is not a vehicle which has been repaired or restored to its original design by replacing parts.

Amended Ch. 1286, Stats. 1983. Effective January 1, 1984.

and

Pollution Control Device: Certificate or Statement

(b) With respect to new motor vehicles certified pursuant to Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 43100) of Part 5 of Division 26 of the Health and Safety Code, the department shall accept a statement completed pursuant to subdivision (b) of Section 24007 in lieu of the certificate of compliance.

(c) For purposes of determining the validity of a certificate of compliance or noncompliance submitted in compliance with the requirements of this section, the definitions of new and used motor vehicle contained in Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 39010) of Part 1 of Division 26 of the Health and Safety Code shall control.

(d) Subdivision (a) does not apply to a transfer of ownership and registration under any of the following circumstances:

(1) The initial application for transfer is submitted within the 90-day validity period of a smog certificate as specified in Section 44015 of the Health and Safety Code.

(2) The transferor is the parent, grandparent, sibling, child, grandchild, or spouse of the transferee.

(3) A motor vehicle registered to a sole proprietorship is transferred to the proprietor as owner.

(6) The motor vehicle was manufactured prior to the 1976 model-year.

(7) Beginning January 1, 2005, the transfer is for a motor vehicle that is four or less model-years old. (g) For purposes of subdivision (a), any collector motor vehicle, as defined in Section 259, is exempt from those portions of the test required by subdivision (f) of Section 44012 of the Health and Safety Code, if the collector motor vehicle meets all of the following criteria:

(3) The motor vehicle complies with the exhaust emissions standards for that motor vehicle’s class and model year as prescribed by the department, and the motor vehicle passes a functional inspection of the fuel cap and a visual inspection for liquid fuel leaks.

I already had talked to Dave B. and mentioned that to Chris B. First thing to do, was to check the VIN number with DMV and see if there was any record of it. If not, makes things a lot easier. I think the visual will be interesting.
