![]() Nice air shots Jeff. What you called the Esses looks like the west end of European Straight with Marlon Brando's house in left center. You can see the bamboo of his driveway. The hedge along Mulholland shown in the photo is not present in the Esses, but is present along the north side of Mulholland just west of European Straight. ![]() I can see this area from my house looking east. Here's the last 11 x 15 inch wheel under restoration today.
Lots of sanding followed by lots of polishing. About 6 hours per wheel of hard work. ![]() Look at the results, here are all 4 wheels done, beautiful! ![]() I think they look almost like they did in 1977. ![]() It goes to show that with a little patience and hard work anything is possible. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 06-27-2008 at 06:51 PM.. |

The Whale Tail was in the way, so off it came and into the den.
![]() Above and hanging on the wall is the alternative deck lid that has been used over the years. I may use this deck lid for the first few months. It is easier to work on the motor with a regular deck lid installed. ![]() After fully scraping all the glue from the back wall of the engine compartment, it was ready for sanding. ![]() Newspaper is used to block off where you don't want new paint to be applied, like the aluminum roll cage. ![]() Here it is finished. It looks like years was just taken off of the car. I used a silver base, followed by a clear coat to protect and improve the luster. ![]() After cleaning the fuel system, and a little work on the motor, we are ready for re-assembly and re-start. Closer still... Last edited by Banning; 06-27-2008 at 07:06 PM.. |

I have a few of these Press Information packets for King of the Mountain.
![]() The Press packets contain black and white photos from the movie and lots of written information like credits, Production notes, Synopsis notes, etc. Here the character Steve sits in contemplation on the side of Mulholland (actually Griffith Park in this photo) next to his silver racing Porsche. ![]() ![]() This is rare still of some of the main characters, taken at or near Mulholland. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 06-28-2008 at 07:30 AM.. |

This is the scene in the movie where Cal goes kinda nuts at the shop where steve and he work.
Dan Haggerty is the shop owner and tries to break up a fight between Cal and Steve. Maybe some Vette owners feel threatened by Porsche Racecars, except for the real Charley. I wish that he was still with us. ![]() After filming the scene Dennis Hopper (Cal) jokes with fellow actor Harry Hamlin who plays Steve. ![]() Another rare shot, this one of Noel Nosseck directing the film. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 06-28-2008 at 07:41 AM.. |

This is an incredibly rare copy of the Production Notes from the making of King of the Mountain.
Jeff D. of the SCCRA should get a kick out of this since his group was used in the filming of the movie. The SCCRA (Southern California Canyon Racers Association) used their own cars for the making of the movie inside of Griffith Park at night. They were paid to hang out just like on Mulholland. Cool! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Banning; 06-28-2008 at 08:21 AM.. |

Here is part of the cover for the King of the Mountain Movie selling brochure.
![]() This is part of the inside cover. ![]() Another part of the inside cover. ![]() Each brochure folder had a copy of "Thunder Road" which is the article about Charley, John Hall, and myself concerning racing Mulholland. This is the article that was "screen written" to make the movie, King of the Mountain. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 06-28-2008 at 08:06 AM.. |

A set of nice postcards was also included in the King of the Mountain Movie selling brochure.
Scenes from Mulholland Drive. Can you recognize where these first two pics are taken? ![]() Here is that close-up that I posted as a teaser a few posts back. It is indeed a air shot of Mulholland Drive between an old Skyline Drive (no trees, or landscaping) and Deadmans. ![]() On the backs of the postcards are interesting facts about Mulholland Drive. ![]() Another Mulholland postcard on the back. These quotes are great! ![]() Last edited by Banning; 06-28-2008 at 08:18 AM.. |
