Picture Disc LPs
When King of the Mountain hit the Theaters, Universal produced Long Playing Records in Picture Disc Format.
They actually play and highlight the songs that were sung in the Movie. Deborah Van Valkenburgh played the female lead in King of the Mountain. She played an up and coming Hollywood Singer in the Studio. These are the actual recordings done in that Studio. ![]() Here are a few of these Picture Discs from the Movie. ![]() |

This Black and White Still Photo shows Deborah Van Valkenburgh singing in the Studio recording the songs that were in King of the Mountain.
The same ones that are on the Picture Discs. ![]() Here she is with Harry Hamlin, the male lead, in a Publicity Shot. These photos are included in the Press Information Kit that was delivered to Movie Theaters to get them to show the Movie. ![]() |

Press Information Kit
These are some of the Press Information Kits that were provided to Theaters to Promote the Film, King of the Mountain.
They included Photos, Story Line, Information Booklets on the Actors, Director, Projected Publicity, and much more. ![]() These are some of the Color Publicity Stills used to promote the Movie, also found in the Press Information Kit. ![]() ![]() I have 2 of the Deluxe Press Information Kits that are quite special. They have much that the other Kit has but with a copy of the Article in New West Magazine by David Barry called Thunder Road which was the inspiration for the Movie, King of the Mountain. Also included in the Deluxe Kit is a series of Postcards showing parts of Mulholland Drive with very interesting facts on the back of the Cards. |

King of the Mountain on TV
King of the Mountain was shown on Television in the mid 80's.
This is the ad displayed in the Los Angeles Times TV Guide for that Premier. I remember watching it that night with friends from Mulholland. ![]() |

I saw an Italian Poster up on eBay recently, maybe still available.
I would love to use the artwork, but put the personal cars onto it, and pictures of a younger me and the fiance I had back in my prime days of doing this. Last edited by TCracingCA; 08-09-2021 at 08:15 PM.. |

I'll just leave this here because it's something to consider for late night Mulholland blasts...

I would make runs on the racecourse if it were a real operational car. Why not? I would change a lot also. Run what you brung! I like the concept because I have been in many cars that may have began as a bunch of Misc Odd Parts Assembled Recklessly, and then some.

Recently a friend brought me the June 1979 Car Craft Issue.
Nothing on the cover mentions Mulholland. I used to Subscribe to Car Craft but I don't remember this particular Issue. ![]() |

I looked thru the Table of Contents.
On Page 73 an Article called Mulholland After Dark came to my attention. The Article is subtitled, "On the Ragged Edge", which was one of my favorite things to say in the old days. The saying refers to driving at your fastest and testing the Edge where you go faster and faster, sometimes crashing from overconfidence. It's important to know your limits. Not many wanted to get back in for a second time. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 09-28-2021 at 11:16 AM.. |
