Here I go on vacation for a week and the discussion takes a left turn to 917s! I like 917s! I really really really like 917s!

From Monterey a couple of years ago.

Cheers,
Kurt O.

Here you go Kurt. One of the most beautiful 917's is this 917 Langheckteil (longtail) from 1969.

Kurt, did you take that awesome photo? What a great shot of 917's together. Thanks for posting it. Which would you prefer to drive?

haha... Chris, that looks like the love child of your RSR and your Testarossa. We now know what goes on in that garage late @ night. Do you ever hear funny noises?

Very funny Radu.

Here's just a couple more photos of the 917 from the old days.

A nice 3/4 rear shot of the 917 Longtail.

Porsche had to produce 25 917 Langhecken for sportscar homologation(homogulation) in order to be able to use them as Racecars in the European and American circuts.

If you love Porsche and especially the Type 917 you have to love this. On the left is the 12 cylinder racemotor from the 917. On the right is the incredible and mysterious flat-sixteen motor. Amazing! (Radu, how would you like one of those engines in your Racecar?).

Here's the big flat-twelve installed and being prepped for takeoff.
Check out the rear tires. With 1000 bhp it's important to get traction.

Saved one of the best for last......

Much prettier in color and in person...

This is the one from the previous color shot of a few 917's. It's a replica, but looks very nice!

Hey Radu, I found this pic from last year, end of March. Recognize it?

Chirs B. and Jane, Thanks for bringing the subs and drinks! It's nice to get outside and hang out for awhile. I'm surprised the cops did not ask us to leave. It was well past 9 when they showed up, but who cares, it's nice not having to rush.

I really wanted to dispatch those two cars in front of me, but felt it better to hang back. If Mulholland ever gets replaced, I'm up for drafting someone on my blades. I wonder if I could use the draft at 15 MPH (my top speed) and keep up with the car as it goes faster...

My oil leaks are getting worse. Seems like the upcoming fall track days are going to have to wait. The chain covers are leaking pretty bad and there is a growing leak between the right chain box and engine. It never ends!

Good time last night!
Radu's Mulholland Bentley is the coolest pup up on the hill.
The donut patrol was actually pretty cool just doing a job. No issues.
Thanks Chris and Jane for the road food. Just a good time for conversation, contemplation's and a moment amongst friends.

More racing pics. Just cannot get enough of them.

I believe that is Carl Thompson on the right who wrenched for Vasek Polak.

Worlds smallest 917. Actually was wrecked during the filming of Lemans. Very expensive accident.

You are never to old to drive a 917 (David Piper)

Your welcome Dave and Jeff, we had a nice evening on Mulholland. Awesome weather. The cops were pleasant and responsive to good sense and good manners. You'll notice that when I offered them a drink, I quickly added that we had sodas and water because that's what we had. No point in giving them the wrong impression. They sure hit us with the big light though didn't they?

We drove across Mulholland to Dirt Mul and there was considerable traffic for nine o'clock at night. Still, it's always fun to take a jaunt in the evening. Enjoyed the company and the dog. Thanks Radu for bringing Bentley. See you next time.

Chris and Radu, you are very welcome. I agree. The view from Mulholland was (and is) beautiful and seems to be alluring in all weather conditions, fog, overcast, rain, strong wind, warm or cool, and crystal clear conditions.

How did you get a close look at a 935? Sounds really fun. By the way Chris, last night when I waived you on to pass me, I was amazed at how your car just seemed to squat, go, and take those asphalt whoop-de-doos just like a championship go-cart. I'm still seeing that image in my head repeatedly. What a fun car you have. Just goes to show again that there is no substitute for a Porsche.

i bought a new helmet from a race shop today and they happened to be setting one up for the upcoming monterey historics. when they found out i was a porsche enthusiast, they took me out to their shop to see it. it was one of the single turbo models.

i first drove a cayman in may of last year and after only a few minutes was confident in declaring it the best handling street car i had ever driven. i had no idea that i would buy my own just 8 months later!

this action shot gets me all excited (photo taken by makofoto (http://public.fotki.com/makofoto)):
