Now, the Porsche work can begin....
Cool, Chris. I remember seeing that beast at your house and thinking, "you sure about this?" Looks like it's coming along.

Now, the Porsche!

Came out nice Chris!

Larry O'Rourke is an old Mulholland regular that used to live above the sweeper, to the left of that big provincial Mansion. He took many photos last weekend at the Monterey Historics and Concours and sent them to me. I would like to share just a few for everyone's enjoyment.

On the way up to Monterey, they had many friends along with them.

There is always an Historic Race with old racecars in mint condition.

Is that a Sunbeam driving on the right side of the Ferrari?

There are lots of tents all around with all kinds of automotive goodies. Nice Daytona in the foreground.

Check out this Lusso. Steve M.'s just sold at auction for over two million.

The Lusso's 12 cylinder engine is a masterpiece, this one is Clean!

What? A racing Lambo? Check out the girls on the right that they got to watch over it.

Wowee! What an engine in that Beast.

This Maserati looks fast.

Larry won the Platinum Award at the Concours with his ultimately clean 328GTB. Congratulations Larry! What a killer weekend.

Thanks Jeff and Derek.

This is indicative of how the interior used to look, these seats, no carpet, wrong color interior panels, missing all kinds of misc. trim pieces, basically wasted.

This is how is looks today. Carpet from JC Whitney, new seats from Ebay, cleaned and painted interior panels, seat belts fixed, tilt wheel fixed, ignition repaired, and all electrical and engine work done to specs. I had to focus on finishing this before undertaking the next car project because the Camaro needed so much restoration. It was way gone when I started, as Derek said.

The daytime running lights are still working to this day! She has the looks, personality and heart to match. Married an idiot who didnt appreciate what he had in life.

Her Dad was a street racer in the 50's. He settled down after marriage to raise a family and run his business. He owned a couple of 76 Stations in the valley. One was in Van Nuys and not sure where the other one was? He retired quite successfully. He also had the franchise at Whitman airport for refueling planes for a while. I used to buy Av-Gas (Green Gas) straight off his trucks in the early 80's and run it in my cars. You had to fill up a gas can because they wouldnt let you fill a car tank with it. The aviation stuff was leaded and the octane was 103! Great for top ends.

GREAT STORY. Glad to hear you two stay in touch and she hasn't lost her
love for cars or 'the hill'.

We heard of guys getting 'AVGAS' AT Whitman but I never
seemed to need it. Since, unlike the High Compression guys with the V-8's my street cars had stock C.R. When it came to the race car we simply bought race gas at the track.

Circa 1989. You can't make it out, but the lettering above the number says ANDIAL.

Yesterday, I painted the Z28 that I have restored to very good condition. I'll drive it tonight if I can get a temp registration.
I'm out. I'll be at KVNY working on my engine. Have fun!

Chris, the Z28 looks nice.

I hope your motor work goes well. We'll miss you. Thanks for the compliment.

I have to post two more photos, it took lots of TLC to get it to look like this.

Another fine evening

Another fine evening on Mulholland Drive tonight. Sunset was a bit smokey from all those fires but added some nice color and hues. One of the best things in LA is the view from Mul and it doesn't cost a thing. Turnout was light on the guest roll but had fun. Chris had Radu and myself on edge (inside humor).
Thanks Chris!

I'll be there next time. BTW, I saw and smelled the smoke, but without a T.V. I have no idea where the fires are and I am too tired at the moment to dig thru the local news websites.

A lot was accomplished on my engine (or at least seems so for a newbie). Cam boxes are off and now it's time to order parts. I still would like to take the intake off and replace the gaskets and insulators, but it sounds like a big task. Anyway, Chris G., Marc K. and Marco came out and with the added help and knowledge, everything came apart in no time, well, OK, we did BS and drink a few beers.

My engine as it sits tonight.

Oh yeah, I sourced a used Euro pre-muffler Bu-bye cat!

Thank You

I grew up in NYC in the late 70's and we had street racing of the drag kind and my first idea of what you guys were doing out here was the film "KOTH" and it blew my mind. When I finally arrived in CA in 1982 I was in the Marines and spent little time with cars, as time flew on I visited Miss Mulholland a few times and missed the good times you speak of here but my interest was not diminished.
Fast forward to present day... I was at Autobooks in Burbank, 4 weeks ago, (my yearly pilgrimage from Anaheim) and i spotted a copy of the book by Mr. Banning and i bought it immediately (noticed it was signed when i got home) and reading it now.
Did a google search "Charley Woit" and came across this fantastic thread at this forum and had to register just to say my thanks to you all.
Still very interested in hearing more of the stories of this wonderful reason to drive...

Had a great time...again. Thanks for coming over after Truckstop. Only a few have seen "The Playroom" in the attic. You guys are great, it was a pleasure to share an edge with you both. Consider it as a lasting memento or a piece of Banning Mountain if you will. We'll do it again someday.

Now that the Camaro is done, it looks like it's time to change the chain tensioners in the 911S. Similar to what Dave is doing on his 911, however it's not as extensive of a job. I can change the tensioners with the motor still in the car. This should not take too long, and then we'll fix the fuel inj. in the Carrera, and then...

time for a grudge race Radu. Better lengthen your suspension travel. Mulholland is full of BUMPS and POTHOLES, and I love it.

Thanks very much for your post. It shows us that over and over again, people from all over America have heard of Mulholland Drive and find it facinating. For those of us that love Mul, it's heartwarming and appreciated. I hope to see you on Mulholland one of these nights so that we can share stories first hand.

Thanks for purchasing The Mulholland Experience, I hope that you find it informative and entertaining. A second edition will be printed before the end of the year with all grammer/syntax errors gone, more pics added, and some more information about the CRE and the MRA added (thanks for your help Victor).

Chris,
Maybe you can post some more pics of your Porsche for those interested to check out.

Some have a hard time understanding its not actually chopped but the windshield and A pillars are laid back. For clarity the C-pillars were cut and the roof pulled rearward. A pillar tipped back at the cowl. Seeing is easier than explaining.

Keith from Zuffenhaus Racing & Fabrication wants to check it out. By the way those ZRF guys are into some pretty serious fab work and heavy metal. A few posts out there reflect audacity in creativity which of course we like.
