Didn't know that - thanks for the cool insight, Herr Oberst! I will endeavour to add some Gram to my new outdoor flash drive stereo to listen to while relaxing in the ski chair. The chair actually sits right between the two speakers so a perfect setup for this application.

I didn’t know they eve made pitchforks from cast iron. That doesn’t seem like the best material for that application.

I thought someone may catch that. I think it's probably forged steel.

There is a performing arts venue in Winter Haven Fl. His hometown, Created in Grams memory.

It's built in the same building that his early band played in before he broke out in the business.
Nice tribute!

Cheers Richard

With the date function that's $600 and beyond depending on condition. I have one that was a high school grad present. Might have cost half that in the mid '60's new.

We were on our way to the garden center to get some straw and stopped at a farm auction along the way. We hung around because they were selling an old bee smoker that Mrs WD had her eye on. The bee smoker was sitting on some bales of straw with a pitchfork in them. The auctioneer couldn't get a bid so he reached over and grabbed this pot and threw it in with the smoker. Still no opening bid. I said, “Throw in the straw and I'll give you $20.” SOLD!

So I got an antique bee smoker, a nice Tramontina 12 qt stock pot ( a good one - 18/10 stainless), and four bales of straw for $20, plus they threw in the pitchfork.
Straw at the farm is $4 a bale, $6 at the garden store. So I got my straw without having to go all the way to the garden store and everything else was free.

mmmmmm! Smoked Bees! Lip smackin' good!

(But seriously, I love it when the universe let's you know who's in charge - in a good way! Go with the flow and get along!)

(That smoker has alu rivets and the leather is still intact. I wonder how old it really is?)

(Thank you for wearing pants while you were taking a picture of the stockpot)

We aren't squeezing it. The leather is pretty stiff.
It's old enough that it made of real leather and it's riveted and nailed, not stapled together like new ones.

I found 2 Kitchenaid stand mixers in mint condition. One for 75 a ksm5 solid state circa 1990. And a 5 qt professional for 125.

I picked the pro up put it in my basket and walked on down the aisle..a guy said he was looking for one and gave me $8 for the right to buy it. I just don't need 3 of them.

What I want is the Hobart n50.

I bought these valve grinders at a yard sale today. I was just going to buy the Kwik Way grinder for the valves, but the lady threw in the Sioux seat grinder as well! She said it all went together. Paid $200 for the lot.

The Sioux came with the wheel dressing fixture and all the stems and stones.

Not At A Thrift...

Well I have been looking for awhile for a Hobart N50 5 QT Commercial Mixer...all metal gears...and today I bought one in my Maryland...for $162.40 PLUS SHIP....they weigh 42 lbs so that is gona cost me some change to ship it to me...

However they cost $2500 new, and the new ones are not considered to be as robust (motors might not be made in the USA anymore) as the old ones which are virtually bullet proof. This one by SN appears to be early 70's with original paint. Was told it runs guddd. We shall see....have KA 5 QT Bowls, will need Whisk and Dough Hook (I understand KA attachments are interchangeable with Hobart N50 as they were the same co at one time?). I want the metal meat grinding attachment to start making my own sausage...

I will clean it and probably pull it apart to check the gears and repack the grease...note it apparently still has the original "NSF" and "H" decals still on it..that is a good sign.

Not a CL or garage sale find, but it fits in the vein of this thread. I inherited some old cast iron from my late grandfather this past week. Some of these are handed down from my grand-father's grand-father. So in my estimation, they are eclipsing 200-years old. Need to clean and season then we are off to the races.
