Yes,

I certainly did not buy this car for the 1/4 mile...

It's extra width also creates huge drag. A narrow-bodied Carrera with sport pack option (common) would give it a run for its money. The benefit of bigger brakes is really only good for reduced fade as either will lock your wheels with ease.

How unimportant is it? Why do so many narrow body owners upgrade to bigger bakes then?

Lets keep this thread about backdating gang. How about taking the Turbo-look versus the rest brake merits discussion to a new thread?

Dean: I discussed this a page or two back, but essentially, it'll be a modified RS or RSR f-glass bumper. I'm going to make one with my spare RS bumper and make a mold with it. It won't look exactly like an RS bumper, but it'll be close.

Jens: Your car looks mean and all business just the way it is! Sure a longhood would look good too, but....oh man! Decisions decisions!

Great, keep us posted.

And Jens, the wife just called your car cute. I think it is time to backdate. ;-) Just kidding

backdating question #2

RS door panels?

How is the door release actuated and are these worth the installation. Can I still put a speaker and the electric window switches in it? I've seen plenty of different ones advertised; where is the best place to find a quality set?

P.S. Would two black panels look gaudy with my blue leather interior? I'm eventually going to change the interior to black because no one makes anything in blue.

RS door panels use a pull strap to open the door.

You can put whatever you want in the door panel. Depending on where you get them, you can specify exactly which features (power or manual windows, speaker(s), etc.) you want and they'll make them up for you as you request.

Good writeup here from TurboRuf:

RSA Door Panel How-To

I think the black would look fine in a blue car. Most people probably wouldn't notice otherwise if you didn't mention the black panels.

In this thread, Keith S (911 & Porsche World) states that his rear panel didn't have to be cut as part of his backdate. A truly reversible conversion would be cool

Thanks, KTL.

That thread was exactly what I needed. Now I need a second job.

So, he uses "The new RS-style rear panel"...wonder what THAT looks like? Probably not like the real panel. When someone says "-style" anything without an explanation, I kinda wonder.

Souk,

I am trying to wire up the final things, front turn signals and headlights.

How did you do this on your car? My '85 model has a wiring loom that goes all the way out to the headlight and turn signal, while the early style turn signals have a socket that plugs into the trunk bulkhead then the car chassis wiring loom goes into this and completes everything.

Do not want to reinvent everything and hope someone else has been through this before.

Joe:

I just determined what the leads are for each (chassis and early harness...ground, marker and turn signal leads). The early lights I got did not have the connectors, just pig tails on the harness. I connected the corresponding wires using spade connectors so I can take the fenders off fast for changing out track-street fenders.

Thanks! Will work the two harnesses together this way.

Has any one ever removed the center console.

I pulled my out to remove the AC wiring and I like the look. I think I'll be backdating to the old stick on the floor look. The console is pretty useless anyways. It probably weighs a freaking pound or two.

After I clean up the car, I'll post a pick.

The whole stock console seems like a quick add on. I like the idea that it catches cig ashes when shifting very well. I want to build one.
