Ok , I am just ok.

My business and creative side have really suffered over the last year, personal stuff has just been beating the crap out of me. Now a single dad again, the latest spin is the 17.7 year old daughter from the first wife wants out of the hse with 4 months left in her senior year, high honors gone to POT! now on a road to ruin, and I just hope I can steer her right. Thats my priority.
Shopwork is on cruise, with customer 911 restoration work. The fiberglass portion is only when time permits, and I expect a website detailing what we make and availibility soon. I can only do what I can do now, family first. This will sort out, I Hope !

Damon,

I agree...family always first! My 5 yo is my priority in life and he's the one that keeps me sane!

Please add me to the list for the fender extension/light buckets and modified long hood.

Regards,

Damon,

Good to hear from you. Remember that your health and welfare should be first. Without you in good condition, everyone around you will suffer. Next comes your family and friends. Look after them next.

The rest can and should be worked out as you are able.

If there is anything that any of us on the list can do, please ask. Its a close knit group and most of us would be glad to do whatever we could.

Get things sorted out then get back to us. My backdate project is somewhat on hold as I have been overseas the last 5 months and know what you mean about trying to hold things together at home.

For those contemplating a backdate project, have a look at this DDK link :

It really is a great read and the end product looks stunning...

Cheers

Joe, things always have a way of working out. My daughter got into college, completed her first year, and after a year and a half, sent a fathers day card and decides she misses her dad. good news!

Backdate stuff, we have a date for an article in a most excellent magazine, good news too!

Oh man........... another $50K 3.6 conversion? Is that the latest baseline for one of these cars? Seems like in today's market with the falling prices, a price point of that level wouldn't be attainable.

I always thought that level of pricing was a little out of touch, but when I consider the amount of work and expense it'll take to finally finish my original recipe "Bastard" I wouldn't accept anything under 50K for it. Call me crazy....but building a hot rod 911 is not cheap...even with guys like you and me doing the work ourselves.

One thing to consider is the performance of that car compared to modern day cars that may be on par with the performance. At 2400lbs, Curt's car would out perform a lot of cars out there...

...personally, I wouldn't sell my "Bastard" but if I had to I'd list it at what it's worth to me knowing what went into it...and wait for the right buyer to come along.

Now if you are shopping for a stock Carrera you might find one for less than 20K and some great deals for less than 15K, but then start adding up the cost to get it up to the level of Curt's car.....one soon realizes that throwing down that kinda cash to hop in a car and ride off in it is a good buy unless one wants a project to languish for years while one keeps pouring money into it.

Funny how one's perspective changes when time is a premium huh Kevin?

Thumbs up

I know this car and it's not just another conversion. It's an amazing piece of work and quite respected by the gruppe. Fit and finish is top notch and it's a smoking performer. I think the price is conservative.

I understand what Souk's saying, but it still flys in the face of the way modified cars are priced- you just don't get out of it what you put into it.

Don't get me wrong. These cars are BAD mofos. Bernie's/Troy's car, Curtis', blee's, Jack Olsen's, and all the other well done 3.6 conversions/backdates are all great cars due to their timeless looks and formidable performance (I drove Bernie's car a few times when I finally got it out of my garage. Wicked fast!!). I'm just not seeing the value going that high when you consider what else one can get for that kind of money. That's sort of what determines the value of the car. But I do understand also that for something somewhat unique like these hotrod backdates, it's whatever someone's willing to pay!

Thanks guyz !

Souk's great at reviving the past. He and I spoke about his project circa 2004, and "Souk", I'm really glad it's come to fruition. Jens, thank you also. Nice job Blee. Getting back to KTL's comment about value, I believe we ( backdaters) do this for the "purpose" use of our Porsches'. My BD started from my car being stolen. Over a year later and lots of sheep counting it finally came to fruition. Then, we were "flying blind" and most things were done only from inspiration and purpose. I really do NOT believe there is a barometer for value, other than a buyer looking at what's been done and then sitting down and doing a little arithmetic to figure what it would take to buy a blank canvas and start from scratch. Thank you again for ALL the kudos, cheers !
