You'll have to remove the muffler and a panel that is right above the muffler. That will give you access to the nuts behind the reflector. The studs on the reflector are imbedded onto the plastic, so be careful. Put some penetrant on the studs. If you break the studs off, you can always epoxy them on...no big deal.

I've been trying to squeeze in the backdate with everything else that's going on in life...and I'm almost done..this picture is probably 1+ week old.... (sorry if I have ignored some e-mails or PM's )

More after this weekend I hope....I still have suspension work to do and I've already paid for an April 19th track day!

The full strip and paint will have to wait until after the 19th...but I have a fun paint scheme brewing for the 19th....stay tuned.

Souk,

Look at it this way, at least you've got a motor in your car!

Great work, can't wait to see it complete. Have you done the suspension yet?

Tristan

Yes, that reminds me of the other thing I have to do this weekend...install the brake controller on the Jeep

I may have to take a couple of days off from the money paying work...

hey souk I did not read throug yet on you UBthread yet, but have you cut your car up front yet? The reason I ask is, I have this combination of my FRP parts and a little mold work to perform on RCM's 78 targa. the gist of it is, keep your sc front fenders and front bulkhead, add my "special" longhood, and light/horn grille panels that extend around to the flare, use the front latch where it is(lower and upper, sneaky part of the new hood), add an early bumper/lenses/horn grilles, paint and assemble. the light/horn grille panel will screw right into the fender where the smile and bellows finishing panel mounted. the whole package will avoid an awful lot of cuttin and weldin, non intrusive and totally reversible. Its just one of many Porsche body pieces I toy with, this one has to get done by, OH, 1st week of may. then the parts will be availabe to open market.

Damon..you beat me to it! I was thinking of the conversion on stock fenders...you'll have to read the thread and try to pick up my train of thought.

As for the front, I took all of it off. I have '71 fenders and hood and a f-glass S-bumper. It really wasn't that difficult, and since I'm going with the RS/RSR hood hold down, the hood latch is not a major issue. I will add some kind of safety or maybe modify the hood to work with the stock hood latch (sounds like you beat me to that too!) Funny how the ideas start rolling in when did into these thing...I'd like to see your hood if you don't mind...my e-mail address is "souk at comcast dot net" MAN! I want to see your shop!

Rick mentioned you were working on his car...can't wait to see it!

Damon,

I am backdating my 85 model 911 and have not taken my fenders off yet, but the "boat anchor" front and rear bumpers are history!

Where can I get more information on the option you are talking about?

Thx,

JoeA

I made up the front panels out of my rsr molds, chopped here and added there, whamo, bolt on to the late fender for an early fender. Rick was lamenting on car purchases last year. wanted early, but rust or price made him run. Picked up his SC and started talking about custom this and that, backdating dreams and the like. But still the dollar ruled his dream. Got me thinking on how we used to chop the noses and add short hoods and long trailing arms, to update. That and the rising costs of early cars, coupled with the better brakes and bigger motors. Just got me thinking. And staring. and thinking. And then I told rick i had a plan, he did'nt believe me. He ordered ruf frnt and rear. Then I showed him the parts and pieces, he changed his mind. I will post the backdate package for sale here in a couple of weeks after I get his car in and start the process. As I pull the parts out of the molds I will let those that are interested in on progress.

I can't wait to see Rick's car when youa re done Damon....

It's is so funny...the circle of life...

I sent an e-mail out on Rennlist 2-3 years ago about backdating. I bet we can find it in the archives Damon...but I recall you talked me out of it with your response...Hahahhaaa!! LOL! I love it!

Lets have some fun boys! EVERYONE BACKDATE!

Update: the front end is all done on my car, and the flares need finish work, all the welding is done. I'm having a beotch of a time fitting the rear bumper. The front was a snap..the rear..oh boy...don't ask! It was late and the kid's rooms are right above the garage and the neighbors go to sleep at 830! So I did the small stuff...

Tomorrow the grinder will met the bumper and we'll stir some dust!

I'd love to see pics too Damon. I've been thinking of ways that an early car look could be 'mocked up'. Sounds like you've done what I was thinking.

(RCM ), rick is on me to do his car for may, so these parts are well under way. There will be more to post as they come out of the molds, All I can tell you is these will be the Ultimate Backdate parts for the nose.

Souk, talkin you out of it was due to the amount of work neccesary for OEM stock parts, ie front latch panel being the big work, followed by fenders hood lights grilles. Hell man I was just letting you know what you were up against , not that it could not be done! I just thought of an easier way this winter, and will build the parts out of some of my existing molds, proverbial better mousetrap.

I know Damon..I really was not ready to do this at that time, so it was good avice. I just find it funny how small the 911 world is, and how soon it brings 'round.

Damon,

Thanks for the PM and hope you have some pics and product for sale to the rest of us soon!

What type of front turn signals would this use? The older style or ? I have finally been able to find a set of early front signals but it was not easy nor cheap. Partswerks has limited numbers of new units for sale, for "only" around $600 EACH!

Thanks,

JoeA

I make these, and may just incorporate the light box right into the part, therefore just screw the lens on and done, rather than install a light box into the frp part.
