Nice work Souk! Does this mean you'll be too busy to help me hang the new f-glass doors?!

Body shop supply store has the dum dum. I used black color. I think it also comes in a white. I also wrapped the "speed screws" with the dum dum to prevent the screws from coming loose. The original dum dum was a patient removal; then a clean up with thinner.

Looking good Souk. With that colour scheme it's kindof cop car like.

Thanks guys...I can't wait to finish it. It's going to be in the 50's this weekend and I have half a car in the garage

I hope I'll have the time to fit the rear flares and weld them on this weekend. More pictures then.

It was a busy weekend, but here is the latest on the project. A slightly hung over and very tired (3am pocker game victim...post birthday celebration) Johnny Lightning (cstreit) came over and gave me a hand with the gut wrenching task of cutting up a perfectly good 911. (thanks buddy!)

It took me about 1/2 hour to get the nerve up to cut, but once it it started, it took about 2-3 minutes to get the mini flare off the driver's side.

We test fitted and ground a few times and got the SC flare to fit pretty well. A little tack here and there and voila! One flare installed!

And so it started:

Gone

Tack welded on:

I love that curve!

"Honey, does this flare make my arse look fat?"

Busy Friday afternoon...

Got a new grinder to replace the one that crapped out last weekend and had to try it out..on thing led to another, and before I could get over the pain of pinching one finger with the zigsaw and burning my thumb on a hot piece of sheet metal I was cutting...I have an early rear end!!!

I love the way that thing looks..everyone should backdate!!!!

Here's a peek...more tomorrow.

James, it's the best feeling....and it is so easy with the right tools. I did the rear in about an hour. I'm going to video and time myself tomorrow morning when I do the passenger flare....

Just found this thread and the light bulb is lit in my head. I wanna backdate too. Was looking for a 72-73 when I found this thread. I would backdate just for appearances as I love the early look.

My question is, I don't want to put flares on. Can I backdate w/out the flares? Is there a aftermarket bumper that'll work with the narrow body?

I don't think you'll find a narrow rear bumper easily, but it would not be difficult to modify an RS shape to fit the narrow rear of a 74-77 car.

Well I was thinking Carrera. Did any of the carreras come with flares that would fit? Even then, is modifying an RS bumper my only option w/narrow body?

The RS bumper will fit the Carrera. That's what they were made for. SC's and Carreras have the same flares. When you said that you didn't want to put on flares, I assumed you had a 73.5-77. My car is a 76, so I had to weld on SC/Carrera flares to get the RS rear end look.

Any f-glass RS bumper will need fitting to fit well. And you'll have to cut the rear reflector panel off to put the bumper on a '73.5-'89 car. That is easier than flares. The metal they spot welded onto the rear end is pretty thin. Others have drilled the panel off, drill the spot welds, but I didn't want to leave holes in the car, or have to fill them. So I cut it off with a grinding wheel (thin disk).

Thanks, Jeff

Jeff, I was too busy to take pictures of that, but I can do that and post it.

In an earlier thread, you can see how Jim P. drilled his reflector panel out. Taking that panel off was a piece of cake. It's non-structural, so no issue there.

How do you get the reflector off? I've tried, but I'm afraid I'll break it.
