I like Targa's, of course. And there's a bunch of really nice looking ones on this thread (I've posted Hygge here before). Last month Cha and I took Hygge for a drive. 2800 miles in 7 days. NM to S. California. Up Hwy 1 to San Francisco. Then back down again to San Luis Obispo (stayed a couple days there for work). Then home. Along the way we found numerous little detours up passes into the mountains.

Could that be an ultimate Targa drive? 2800 miles, and over 2000 of those miles were with the top off. In February, no less. Can it get any better than that? Highlights? Hard as it may be to believe, the best part might not have been the trip along the coast. The drive home through the desert was sublime. A warm, golden afternoon on Hwy 58 from SLO to Bakersfield. Visit to a farm stand and a box of fresh-off-tree citrus was added to the package shelf. Then up and over Tehachapi, blowing past long lines of semis crawling along at 60 mph less than us. The sun setting behind us as we came down towards Mojave, followed up with a full moon drive through the night, well into triple digits, for most of the Barstow to Kingman stretch. The warm day changed to a cold night out in the desert. But the top stayed off under that full moon, with warm arm air swirling around our legs, jackets and a blanket, faces in that crisp air. That is an old-fashioned adventure sort of motoring, and Targa's are just right for it. Somewhere north of santa cruz ![]() Hygge likes the beach (and I never get tired of pictures of 911 rear ends )![]() Packed and leaving SLO for the trip home ![]() Hygge (and Cha) in Solvang, how funny is that? ![]() Cha taking the top off again, after a stop for a little hike along Hwy 1. ![]() Just another Targa pic.

Here's my 86. I've had it since 98. All stock except for the wheels by the PO. I now have a set of 16" Fuchs so that I can put her back to original. I also had some thought about going retro with gold BBS basket weaves and a tea tray but those parts have been on the garage shelf for more than a few years. I just really like the stock look. The pictures are older, but everything looks the same today as then - except for my now in law's PCA badge from when he was stationed in Heidelberg. I wish he still had that car.

1981 SC, wine red, or weinrot, got it half a year ago, very good body (california car) , poor targa roof (but who needs that

) i had some broken cylinderbolts, so i had the engine completely refurbished from the bottom to top...basically brand new now + new clutch. Now, it's got a 39cm Nardi wood wheel with black spokes (fantastic!) , euro front and rear lenses etc... RUF lookalike bumpers might disappear one day...still thinking hard what to go for... ![]() it is a wonderful car, i don't get the vibe around the somewhat 'lesser' SC cars, nor the targa cars...i used to own a 69 T coupé, and this is 100x more fun...and no rust...and starts every day...so much faster and exciting... etc.. ![]()

What are the tire sizes? The tires look large making the top (windshield and targa bar) looks short - kind of like a speedster. maybe just the angle the photo was taken at or all black wheels. I like it very much.

Replaced all suspension bushings front & rear so I went and had the car corner balanced and aligned. Turns out I did a really good job on setting it up as we didn't really have to change any of the wheel pressures

![]() ![]() ![]() If you check the numbers you'll see the chassis is slightly twisted.. the inevitability of having an open roof I guess ![]() It does feel really tight on the road after freshening up the suspension. Up next is the extremely irritating water and air leak at the driver side quarter window.
