I haven't driven one on a race track, the general consensus on this board is that, from the factory the Coupe is stiffer, the Targa has more flex and is heavier. All drawbacks can be equalized with a little effort. Some have claimed that the slight flex in the Targa provides an advantage.

If you do a search you can find a great deal of information. In this thread Targas are trump. Also, throughout the threads in pelican I have seen more pictures of Targas on the track then Coupes.

How about a 67 911 Targa I found this spring, sitting since 1977 and now undergoing a complete restoration.

Great thread!!

Hello To All,

I am new to Pelican, and the proud new owner of a 1988 911 3.2 Targa (commemorative edition Diamond Blue celebrating the 250,000th 911 produced). I am the third owner, and intend on using this as my daily driver. The Targa top was/is in rough shape and I have sent it off to Dan Petchel in NJ for complete restoration. Since I have purchased it I have put over 1000k on it and have been loving ever minute of it! Over time I will be freshening it up as the interior shows its age. The engine has been checked out by the local specialists and it has been given the thumbs up.

I also have a 1968 912 Coupe that was previously my fathers. Years ago it was stripped, repainted and given new seals. It now needs some motor work, paints and interior work. Ah, the big project!

I agree with a previous poster regarding the clean look of a tailless Targa. While some cannot fathom the look of a Targa, I find the rear end look to be more muscular than the coupe, without the excesses of the wide body, or the turbo look. Which I too love, don't get me wrong!

Anyway Cheers and happy motoring! OH, hopefully, pics to come soon....

Yaz
