Yep the roads here in Louisiana are terrible I'll tell ya. Lowering it to Euro Height is one of the things on my list after get the AC working. Hot as hell down here right now.

Targa frontal seal...is there a cheaper option tham this:

Pelican Parts - Product Information: 911-565-091-45-M260

I usually try to use OEM seals, but looking at my old one, it certainly doesn't need to fit perfect to work. And it's large enough to trim or "make fit" if need be.

TIA,

Ryan

I had standard 6 and 7's but used spacers to fill out fenders. The spacers really helped...

Now I have moved the 7" rears up front and got a set of 8" for the rear. No spacers. You get more of a sport look with the deeper dish to the rims.

here are some side shots showing the depth.I think it made a huge difference.

before shot with 6 & 7's with 7mm and 22mm spacers respectively. Looked good - just not as sporting.( I have the spacers if anyone is interested)

How much for the spacers? Also sent you a PM but was wondering what tire sizes you are running now? Thanks for the info!

Another weekend of driving - 1 day 800 kms loop..........

Did some off the beaten path backroad exploring. This road was a little too rough, but the view was grand.

Wow that is one awesome view! It reminds me when I used to be stationed in Germany back in the 80's!

Here is "Bwunhilde". She just got back from her 1st ever DE (that I know of) at CMP, and the old girl did pretty well. She tied with "Barney" a 1995 purple M3 as the DE car with the most miles: 231K.

Ryan, did you ever get an answer to this? It's my understanding that the OEM piece does not really fit an '81 anyway. Porsche changed the seal but kept the same model number. I think Dan at CarsInc sells the correct size reproduction manufactured to the old specs. Vintage Porsche Parts and Targa Tops for Porsche One of Wayne's competitors has the correct size reproduction seal as well (for 135.99). I don't think I'm supposed to list their name here, but they've been around for a long time. Email me if you want.

I wish Pelican carried the repro.

Shawn

Nice Targa too!

ps Are you aware there are several aftermarket companies who have finally figured out how to make a 911 blow very cold air. Check around - especially in the ads in Excellence Magazine (which btw is an awesome mag - make sure to subscribe, and in the meantime pick up a copy at B&N).

Traded cars back and forth yesterday. My 911 has way more HP, but the 70 2002 was a great canyon carver. Very fun cars!

Here's a few of my '88 Commemorative Edition. It's a bit of a work in progress right now but has 54k miles, a built 3.2, Autothority MAF, headers and Phase 9 race mufflers, HRE wheels, Quaife LSD, performance suspension with custom valved Bilstein Sports and monoballs, 993TT front and 928S4 rear brakes, 930 master cylinder, etc. It is a blast to drive, even needing a little TLC. I just pulled the front splitter and RSR spoiler before this picture, as well as removing the rockers as an experiment. I'm still torn on the look.

I too, experimented with the rockers removed. I personally think that targa's need then aestically unless the car is black so i just put mine back on.

74 and 87 Targas

I owned a 74 911s Targa for 28 years. I recently let it go, regrettably....but after a few weeks I decided to purchase another Targa. Searched the net high and low. Found a beautiful well maintained 87, same color. It arrived with the Tail which I removed and sold. Turned down a really great deal on a 2003 996 Targa and stuck with the air cooled classic. Glad I did! Nothing quite duplicates the experience of the originals.
74 911 on its way to auction block

87 when it arrived off the truck
