That's why the sunroof was invented...

However, I hear there is a knowledgeable guy back East who stuck a 3.8RS motor in his targa and races it...

Nope. I was a Coupe only guy for years. I no longer own a Coupe. I used to have one of each which is a nice way to go but if I had to choose just one it would be the Targa. I do live in Socal so that does weigh in though.

Yes they do.

My first was a targa and I'll never own another. They aren't as pretty, suffer from leaks, expensive seals, numerous adjustments, and aren't that good looking either.

I won't own another one.

But I did love my old car.

I bought my Targa about a year and a half ago. I took the top off the second week and have not put it on since. I agree with rcooled, in CA we enjoy a long top off driving season and that is what I bought the car for.
Thanks for this thread, I am getting a lot of good examples of how my Targa should evolve with front valance and rear spoiler treatments. Beautiful cars.
On the Targa note, I have never seen any comments on the Targa body brace sold by our host. Does it help stiffen the chassis?

The only targa I would consider is the 993 targa with the glass roof. Kept the line of the car but had a more open top.

Best of both worlds.

Targa Joke/clown car

They look like a chick-designed Toyota of some sort from a very bad Tequila influenced dream. 930 coupe is the only Porsche worth having. EPS

Here's my first Porsche and the last targa I'll ever own...

I still think about that car every time my physician burns a pre-cancerous lesion off my forehead with liquid nitrogen...

Okay here it is.................

First 911 coupe was introduced in 1965.

First 911 Targa was introduced in 1967.

I guess Porsche had a few years to think about the targa before production. It was the rear soft window at first that came out. But like all vinyl windows, they eventually failed.

What, no 964 Targas? Talk about a bastard car - 1990 c2 Targa

My take is that all sports cars whould be ragtops. wind in your face, bugs in your teeth. You prissy boys in your coupes are missing 1/2 the experience riding in a porsche. If you can talk to your passenger over the wind and engine noise you are not going fast enough.

I bought my Targa because it had a 3.6 in it and was meticulously maintained. I had looked at two 930's prior to it and another 80SC Coupe with a stock motor.

I had drven my cousins 73 Targa when I was a teen and loved it. I didn't have a preferance between the Targa or the coupe. I just wanted a Porsche. After shopping and researching I decided it was either going to be a 930 or a 3.6 swap.

After owning my Targa for over 6 months now I can agree, there are problems specific to a Targa but the open air feeling while blasting down mountain roads is second to none.

I have no intention of tracking my Porsche, maybe a couple of times just for fun. My serious track car is in the background of this pic. So the rigidity of the frame was a non-issue for me.

I guess it boils down to what you like. I wouldn't have minded a coupe either. But this car, with this engine is perfect for me. The Targa top is just a bonus to me.

You cannot shoot video like this in a coupe:
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/21926FC5-0E31-4F89-9726-BB004FC84CE1.htm

Yup, ugly, leaks water, lots of wind noise, only its owner could love it....
