Thanks...did I mention I had to take a City bus to the local Auto Zone? I had my .357 strapped to my ankle and had to buy a case of 20/50 Castrol...not my favorite.....

I spent most of my repair time on the bus and convincing the AZ guy that YES, this was a Porsche and the line wasn't for water.....and NO I wasn't an idjut driving thru Boyle Heights.....

Actual fix was like 7 minutes, not including filling the oil tank and heating up the engine to get the thermostat to open....

Of course I had to seriously wipe the stain off of my shorts when I got out the door and saw the oil spilling out. I didn't know WHAT to think blew.....

AS to the fires.....I face the beach on "the mesa" ......we face south and the fires are to the north in the foothills. The winds are driving them east to west....as long as it doesn't do a 90, I be cool......3 miles away.

I was told there was a seam....didn't see one on the old one or the replacement. I bought two, prolly need one for Ingo's as well...his can't be in any better shape than mine....

That hose is pretty reliable, but yeah, if it breaks......... play the lottery 'fo sure!

A good test for replacing this hose is if it is REALLY hard. When new, the hose is quite flexible and you can squish it, bend it, pretty easy. If you can't even squish it (kinda like when a garden hose is under pressure) whatsoever, nor can you bend it much, it's a good idea to replace it.

The old hose was still pretty pliable but with surface cracks visible in the light....not evident while on the car.

The environment under/around the engine is pretty harsh. The exhaust manifold is but a few inches away and after time, it will affect the service life of the hoses in the vicinity. Consider wrapping some heat insulation material around the hose. It'll last longer.

Classic application for some self fusing silicon tape, er-tape, rescue tape, etc.

I now keep a roll of this in the tool kit in the car.

need any ER Tape?

Just make sure you buy an origonal porsche oil hose. There are aftermarket ones out there from URO and they are so bad it's unbeliveable....

The URO ones seem good before you install them but then after 3-6 months the motor oil has a reaction with the garbage rubber they are made from and the hose swells and becomes incredibly soft and spongy.
That hose has no reinforcemnet fibers molded into it like all pressure hoses. The origonal porsche hose is also unreinforced molded rubber but they don't swell up and becoime soft from motor oil. The oem hoses are stable and just dry rot and crack eventually after 20+ years.

Pelican only sells the oem hose while that place in Miami that starts with V sold me the URO hose at the same price of around $23. Only reason I ordered it from Miami was so I'd recieve it the next day and I didn't know it would be an inferior aftermarket oil line.
