Oh my head - Government Agencys
I work in the corporate income tax department for a company. I get a call from payroll 2 days ago saying the state will not accept a job contract with our company over a $60.00 payroll issue from 2016. I say why don't you pay and the response is it will take too long. I try to get them to catch their own fish. So I log onto the state website and find the outstanding liability and pay it ACH debit (State will pull money from out account). Receipt says it may take several days to process and as a result the job is being held up and I am getting emails from payroll, our gov agency group and payroll.
A) we won the bid and I am sure the savings hiring us over another competitor is over $60. I'm a spiteful Italian, if I was in charge I would say go use bidder # 2, good use of government money. B) the time wasted over this $60 is crazy. I have received emails from directors, VP's and others. I am sure they could be doing other things. C) I am in compliance season, I have my own problems. D) On day 3, hopefully it will be resolved. I need to talk to some of the higher ups about issuing credit cards or something for emergencies (in the lightest form) like these. Once I get my kids through college, I am done with tax. "7 more years, 7 more years, serenity now, serenity now..." I have tons of stories like this. It's really sad how difficult things that are irrelevant have become. |

The problem with government rules is that they are one-size-fits-all and totally inflexible. They treat a $60 accounting mistake the same as someone who has habitually ripped off the state for millions.
Wait, that's not true, the person who habitually ripped of the state for millions was probably well-connected and had a few laws passed and a few phone calls made to protect them from any consequences. The problem with government rules is that the screw people over small issue while ignoring (if not actively creating) huge issues.

I went to the DMV the other day to renew some camper plates.....what a clusterfuch. Take a number and wait for 45 minutes to have people walk in off the street and get helped immediately without a number. So many people having the wrong documents, trying to pay with a credit card, or with a green card (no habla ingles).
An absolute excersise in patiences, and restraint. |

Here in Cincinnati, I have never waited more than one or two minutes to get anything done at the Ohio BMV or at the County Deputy Registrar when getting vehicles or myself licensed. As an added bonus, the offices seem to be all over the place, compared to the California DMV's... DL |

You need a guy that can do registration. Not everyone in that office does it, and there is often a back end person that the front end person has to have open in order to do it. If the back end person isn't available t he front end person will be assigned to someone else that doesn't require the two part system. If you were to pay attention to what those people getting in front of you are doing, you will find it isn't walking in to start the registration process.

On the other hand, I had a Corps of Engineers testing lab tell me that they weren't interested in my product years ago - it was a commodity. I learned that there was a mandatory bidding cycle that had been ignored. I made my bid. It was really satisfying to show up with my truck making delivery to the same person who blew me off with "no interest."
A little revenge. |

There are third party DMV's here in AZ. Go in and either get served immediately or sit for 4 minutes and wait.
I'll never go to the dysfunctional state DMV ever again.

They need a "now serving" digital display so at least you had an idea if you want to wait in that crowded room. |

Fortunately anything that doesn't require a photo to be taken I can do at my small town city hall where there are 3 workers and only 1 or two other customers.... |

i work for gubmit.
my Achilles is my inability to follow procedure. i just streamline crap. i dont need a manual, a commitee and a tribunal to let me know if the math on some shoring system works out. i tend to do to much myself and it pisses off people. hahah.. it sometimes bites me in the ass when outside people - Contractors give me all the paperwork because they know i am the fast one. 5 more years and i am gonna take my retirement strategy classes.

I work for a government entity and this kind of thing does drive me (all of us) kind of crazy (we're engineers.) But I do understand where some of it comes from, as much as I think we could operate much more efficicently without most of it.
As for DMV/Secretary of State, the last two times I had to renew my Illinois driver's license (I did it at the Thompson Center in the Loop), they were fantastic - I was in and out in under an hour (probably under 45 minutes) and everyone was cheerful and highly competent. Registered my Saab recently - it was a personal import from Canada, not something they see every day, exactly - and they handled it without a hiccup quickly.

I am picky about which office and the time...usually painless for tags, etc. Had to renew my DL this year....so I went. No sign test now, and I noticed a sign said you could do it online now. So as they're checking my eyes, and taking my pic, I ask....how does it work online? If you can see the screen online, they figure your eyes are good, and just use your old picture....what a joke

Fortunately AAA does DMV stuff here in Calif and even that can mean a wait. Wish they could do driver's licenses as well, the new license goes into effect 2020. Not looking forward to the last minute rush.
My closest DMV in Newhall is 3-4 hours if you don't have an appointment, sometimes longer.

I'm trying to change the zoning on my place in Fla.
Started the process over a year ago with the county. After months of run around they realized that there is no legal easement for the driveway across state forest land. A number of properties here were landlocked when they realigned the road fronting the properties years ago. So an issue created by the governments decision. So we started the process of persuing a legal easement seven months ago, and are still waiting for the various state departments to get their act together to process the application and solve this issue that they created. And the rest of our zoning change can't proceed concurrently, the powers that be can apparently only do one thing at a time. A few months ago, friends bought a place a few miles away, also with an easement issue. Only not involving any government entities. They were able to get it resolved and registered in less than two weeks. We are still waiting. Is looking like it will take around two years to get to a final decision on our zoning change application. Cheers Richard Last edited by tevake; 07-13-2018 at 11:36 AM.. |

Long ago true tale...talking with the manager of a fertilizer place...poor guy pulling his hair.
Seems OSHA came by, had him put their proper back up beepers on the lift trucks. Then a City inspector came by, saying the beepers were violating noise regulations.
