How about: Just give Mercedes the trophy and send them home.
Or: Have a lottery at the start of each weekend to see who gets to drive which car. Who wants to see Lewis Hamilton drive the wheels off a Williams, or a Racing Point? I would like to see him behind the wheel of a Ferrari. Best Les

PS: for those unaware, when the French GP
went north to Magny cours (middle Of nowhere, political play), this track was bought by ecclestone and turned into a test facility for F1 and lemans and the striping was added on purpose as a way to allow teams to test limits without destroying the cars being tested. Same with the thousands of configurations and the sprinklers available to make it a wet track. There were zero grandstands even! I think they could fix it by removing some chicanes and go back to how it was in the 1990 or increasing the penalty to go off track by using tires that self destroy easier on the abrasive stripes. I’d rather spectate there than in Magny. Nice area and no more traffic issues. |

PS: BTW the Indy race just finished was great entertainment, hard to say that about F1. I think the boredom has a lot to do with the tracks themselves. |

For years I've heard people comment on how boring F1 has gotten and how they are loosing interest.
I just ignored them and dismissed their statements. Until today. Snuuuuuze. The race was over after the 4th lap. |

The most boring race ever. The winner passes all but 5th place cars, it is super boring.

One more thing: The penalty on Checo was complete and total BS. It's not his fault that the stewards didn't figure out that going around the bollard would be faster when stuck in traffic on the opening lap.

I would be impressed with Hamilton gapping the field, but he did it in a superior car and Rossi ran away from all of them today in what is more of a spec series. The Indycar race had everything this race didn’t, beautiful track that would make you pay a price if you put a wheel off, wheel to racing with a little gentle bumping that no one complained about or protested, and a bunch of fearless rookies challenging the vets. Even the NASCAR race at Sonoma held my interest more than this. It’s a shame.

I see that McLaren is going to build a new wind tunnel at Woking, and that they have been using Toyota's wind tunnel at Cologne, Germany. https://www.grandprix247.com/2019/06/23/mclaren-to-build-new-wind-tunnel/
What happened to their wind tunnel at the McLaren headquarters? It was supposed to use the water from the pond for cooling, etc etc. Did it break? Is it obsolete? And it seems that the wind tunnel data from the Toyota facility has been their big problem over the past few years. I can see why they would need their own, perhaps because setting up the shared wind tunnel and calibrating things to their software is at the core of their development failures? |

Yes, a better wind tunnel is the answer so they can race even farther apart and not pass.

I don't watch the F1 race until sometimes mid week and then I often watch qualifying and leave it at that. Thanks for the snooze warning. I'll save some electricity.

When was the last time there was a good cheating scandal in F1? Aren't we overdue for one?

It was rather obvious Mercedes have given Bottas a lesser car in order to keep him away from Hamilton and stop all the drama in the races.
This way they can continue to get 1-2 finishes all season with no risk of the cars taking each other out. Make one faster than the other and put the good parts on Hamiltons car. It is all very apparent after this last race. Mercedes has stolen a page out of the Red Bull play book.

It's rapidly starting to look like the issue is primarily "Lewis Hamilton at the top of his art". And that is coming from a decidedly non-Hamilton fan. Doesn't help he has the best car, but not by that much, methink. Bottas was almost caught by Leclerc and Ferrari would have won 2 races this year without screw ups. Sure Hamilton has ups and downs every season, I think he gets bored of being so much better than the rest, but the guy can pull a pole lap out of hat anytime he needs to.
Vettel seems broken / lackadaisical/ ready to retire, Young Leclerc is still maturing, Alonso is gone, Verstappen's Honda is shy a few MPH, what miracle are we expecting every other weekend exactly? I enjoyed the race a lot actually - oh not the F1 one, the Indycar one. I think we can turn F1 off for the rest of the season honestly. Predictions: Binotto gets demoted back to the engine dept before long. Steiner gets the boot along with at least Grosjean next year Kimi gets tired of fighting for a 6th place and retires end of year Gasly gets demoted to Toro Rosso in a race or 2, and Albon gets brought up (and nothing changes, Gasly does well at TR and Albon poorly at Redbull in the Verstappen special) McLaren scores a lucky podium before year end following a Ferrari/Mercedes/Redbull crash ;-) Alonso returns to Ferrari next year. Just trying to make it interesting. The on-track stuff is not. You guys watching indy? That Rossi guy ! Last edited by Deschodt; 06-24-2019 at 12:01 PM.. |

It's too bad he never got a shot at F1!
JK. He did very well in the worst car on the grid. It's too bad he didn't get a shot at a midfield team, but I imagine he is happier away from the politics of F1.

I know it's probably too late but Rossi in a Haas F1 car makes sense . American team with an American driver a win win for sponsorship and fan interest . The Haas car is competitive just needs more development. To be honest Haas should have two American drivers. Their business model kind of goes against conventional wisdom and has been successful in a short period of time . Why not up the ante and have two American drivers ? A seasoned veteran ( Rossi ) and some young pup . What are you afraid of boring racing ? Too late !!!

As a avid F 1 follower for so many years, I didn't watch the Spanish race. I recorded it, but after reading some comments I just erased it. I couldn't stand the track appearance. It looked like a merry-go-round with all the stripes and all. I did watch the IndyCar race just because Road America is my second home. It too got a bit boring, but the scenery was great. Oh well.

So much moaning but you all keep watching
![]() ![]() This week F1 followed me home despite my best efforts to leave it at work... Started when a director seeked out my opinion about a good friend/ex-boss who is shortlisted as technical director candidate for the ????? F1 Team. Really hope that comes off for both sides because if I'm asked I'd be there like a shot ![]() Caught up with an old work colleague who is chief designer of the ???? F1 Team. His cars have won numerous times since we last met up 10 years ago but thankfully neither of us have changed Then a mid-week catch up with the main technical man responsible for the ???? F1 Teams change in fortune. A good leader can make all the difference when firing up and pointing an army of unmotivated people in the right direction and a bad leader just as easily drag a team down into a losing streak abyss On the weekend I partied with one half of the two people ripping up the old F1 FIA technical rules and writing the new 2021 technical rules. It would seem I've worked with most of the FIA now Also at the same party was a very good friend and senior aero technical manager at the ???? Team, can't recall what we talked about but it wasn't F1 so was mildly less boring ![]() 4 F1 teams and the FIA in my spare time all in one week is a record for me so I was glad to go back to work for a rest ![]()

Back when I was your age, F1 cars only carried a light load of fuel and they could change tires as much as they wanted, and ALL THE TIRES WERE BLACK!
Shumi would smoke the other cars and build up a big lead, and then pit again to get a splash and some new stickies. then he'd smoke em again. They'd pit many times during the race and go full tilt the entire time, not just pit once then then coast to the finish while "managing tire wear". Heck some times he'd lap everyone except his team mate. Ah, now that was racing. And we were darned glad to have to too! But you kids wouldn't understand with your new-fangled tire colors and striped tracks with run-off areas and pansy rules to keep from hurting each other's feelings and such. Bah. |
